Don't worry too much and safe your energy. You won't find any computer jobs in Thailand. Nearest you can get to is Singapore.
Check Monsterboard, there are many IT jobs posted for SG.

I think you will find that finding the woman was a damn site easier than finding the income to support her..
Good luck in your hunt..

At age 23 - far better to stay in Switzerland build up your career and experience there then have something to offer or have enough capital to set yur own comapany up in Thailand (which is no easy task).
Take your girl to Switzerland rather than you moving here - your resume/CV wont look too impressive with gap in Thailand on it. Jobs in Thailand for young inexperienced foreigners are nearly impossible to find other than teaching english.
Good luck with your relationship.

You could do like Jean Pierre (Klav). He was very persistent in asking the members on this board for a job in the Thailand oil business ... and eventually someone found the right site for him (think it was Dawsey)....

I do think that it is possible to find work in Phuket but you do need a bit of luck and some contact. I decided that I would like to return to Phuket for work (my third time working in Phuket) and as I am in Europe I thought it would be difficult to finding a job in low season. Six days later I have a job lined up and am arranging my flight tickets. Don't give up your dreams of working and living here. It is possible!

I think key to this is that you have the experience and the contacts indeed.
What are you doing if I might ask ?

Curious. What type of work or type of business? Is your background in that area?

IMHO Phuket is all about who know know and how many people you know. What you know is less important. I will be working in the real estate industry and hospitality industry. And I did find the possition through an old contact of mine. Once you know some people (business people) on the island then it is relatively easy to find a job I guess.

I would take K2s advice.
I quit my computer job at the tender age of 32, and started my own company here (in Phuket). At first some local clients from back home, but then I got in touch with an English company (based in London) and they've been feeding me jobs consistently for 3 years now.
But finding a computer job here in Phuket (with WP etc.) I would deem as virtually impossible. At least I have never come across one.

A number of friends of mine who have an IT background have worked for some online companies and they earned pretty good. 80-100k a month. It is not easy finding a suitable job but it certainly is possible. I have friends in Phuket who didn't finish high school and they have nice paying jobs on the island.

... but I bet you spent a looong time creating and maintaining that network. Coming here with "nothing" in the hopes of landing a job, I find very unlikely.
BTW, is selling timeshares considered part of the "real estate industry"

Yes, but "online jobs" I would not equate with "jobs in Phuket". More of a "job anywhere" type of job.
And of course, you don't have start a company here to do this.

Timeshare is crimeshare for me. The real estate I was talking about is a villa and condo development and has nothing to do with timeshare.
If I may give one piece of advice for board members. If you apply for a job then atleast get yourself a proper resume and cover letter. I have previously had to recruit foreigners for my old company and you can not believe the type of garbage I was receiving from people including from some board members. People would not send a resume with the reason that they have so much experience that they would not know where to start when creating a resume.

I think that you didn't understand what I mean. I was talking about ecommerce companies based on Phuket.

What kinds of skills or certifications do you friends have? Degrees in CS? I'm an IT buff also, I'd like to know what IT companies look for when they are hiring...
...also, what is that 80-100K in, baht, pounds, or USD?

It was THB. I mean don't expect to get rich with a job in Phuket. One of the guys was a network admin and 2 other guys were php programmers. 80-100k is about 2500-3000 USD a month. I mean that is plenty if you live a normal life on the island. The job I got offered pays a liitle bit less but I get a company jeep, annual flights paid, housing, insurance etc.

You can live comfortably for 100k, but you can't build for the future.
Flip side of K2's point is thaizeman is young enough to bounce back into a normal life and career in farangland if it doesn't pan out. But you'd be behind your peers and not set-up well for the future.
Ajaxied, wish you well with your new job when your back here. Must be one of those pricey Surin developments to fit you out with that kinda package.
