TOT service un-fecking-believable.
This one has to take the cake..
Sat morning my net goes south.. No support over the whole weekend.. Usual run around from the central call center etc..
I have the mobile number of the head tech down here and having slipped him a purple note a few times he generally answers my calls on the 3rd or 4th consecutive ring
So 8 am I start calling him.. When I finally get through (he bothers to answer) he says "ohh yes, we changed settings this weekend, go into your modem and set it to PPPoE instead of PPPoA" this done I am instantly back online..
This has to have happened to EVERYONE on the TOT system in my area.. Not only dont they inform you, they dont call, email or anything.. They pick the start of the weekend to do it leaving everyone in the dark until Monday morning !!! They couldnt plan it to be more inconvenient !! No concern for customers service in the slightest, just start flicking switches and see what happens.

The lack of prior warning by he services here when the do something is always annoying - be it water shut off, power outage or in this case internet changes - there will never be any warning.
Not sure if my TOT works in this case - not checked yet as not had problems with TT@T although I got cut off from TOT for being late paying a 35 Baht bill late when I was away !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is bad, they should inform customers of any changes few days or weeks before.
Or at least have an automated answer when you dial their number, so you dont have to talk to customer service.

That really sucks man. I'd be off the wall angry. I feel for you.
When I first got CAT the called to ask why I hadn't started using it yet and if there was a problem. I hadn't moved into the house yet. TT&T/JiNet has been very good at giving heads up on any expected service interruptions.
I've got TOT as a last ditch back-up. Never even tested it yet. They just stuck.

Help!! Need an idiots guide how to change that setting.
Went into My Comp/PhoneAndModem/Modems/Properties/Modem...all I can see in ther is Port:Com3; Speaker volume; Maximum Port Speed and Dial control. Looked in Diagnostics; Advanced; Resources and Driver too
Can't see anything that looks like PPPo3.
Sems TOT haven't bothered telling anyone about this change. Went into an internet shop that is on TOT and they just think it's one of the usual problems.

You need to get into the hardware modem settings.. That is not a setting in your computer but a setting in the hardware modem.. I have no idea what modem you have and each modem is different..
In general you need to point your browser to the IP address of the modem, hope its not password protected, then look in the config or similar..
If you dont know the IP of your modem you can try looking in network settings, LAN connection, properties, look for gateway.. Theres a very good chance the gateway IP is the IP for the modem config page.. Put that IP address into your browser bar.. Thats if you dont have a router and multiple PC's networked.
Really you should get familiar with the modem and its settings anyway.. If your stuck perhaps saying what modem brand it is would help.. TOT used to give away a hyundai piece of junk.. They currently give a speedtouch one thats a little less junky.

Modem settings
Landofsmiles, the setting you need to change is one for your modem, not your computer.
Depending on the modem brand you should be able to log in to the web based interface to make the changes.
If you reply with your modem brand and model I may be able to help.

OK speedtouch is fairly simple..
First find your gateway IP (as per above).. Put that in browser.. 192.168.?.? Perhaps 0.1 was the default..
If you dont know your access info you can look in broadband connection, internet services.. That will show your username (telnumber@account_type mine is 076111111@goldcyber) your password is the telnumber again.
Click speedtouch in the top left menu.. Then setup in blue link under the rest of the info.. That pops up a new window, in there select router, then you need to enter your VPI/VCI mine is 1/32 mine is already in there so hopefully yours is too, no guesswork then..
Below that is connection type.. Thats is now PPPoE (over Ethernet) instead of over ATM..
Then its username and password (which you sussed earlier) and an overall modem password (I dont put any pass in here and leave mine open to any access)..
After that finish and you should be back online (after a reboot and a minute or so for handshaking)..

Weird stuff. I’ve been online all weekend (TOT), but when I check my settings I have PPPoE. In fact, my Protocol has been PPPoE ever since I installed it 3 years ago (then TT&T). When I had to switch to TOT a year and a half ago, I only changed my username and password.
So it seems that PPPoE has always worked (at least for 1 1/2 years), but that TOT has now removed PPPoA?

Thought my prayers had been answered when I found this thread (ToT ADSL down for many days now in Kathu)....
Login to my router and am already on PPPoE. Check router log and error message is "ADSL carrier down".
Called the service center yesterday though and some tech is meant to be coming today. I can't understand how the service can be this bad though, I am seriously connected only 50% of the time each month and otherwise use the Sierra Wireless card thing.
Surely they must be getting calls from other users in Kathu saying everything is down..? I dunno, I guess it's just hard to understand coming from a country where everything generally works as it should.
Could someone also please give me the ToT ADSL service call center number I should be using?

I have a policy of getting the actual techs mobile numbers.. The only way to get answers even close to honesty... The central call center number is totally useless..
Also going to the TOT office over and over until they sort it out.. I was cursed with bad lines to my house.. Had a year of hell and it wouldnt matter who provided the ISP as the line was bad and dropping.. Eventually I had them put in new line from a new exchange box by making so many complaints.. Since then it has mostly worked..

Instead of the normal 107 baht/line, could you offer to pay 214 for a halfway decent line? Would be nice.
If I were you guys, I'd put the big money towards a CAT line and bribe whoever to make it happen. I'm sucking down at 1.6Mbps right now. It is the only line that is really worth the money.

I have tried everything for CAT.. They just say no way for running a line to me..
My line has been good since the new one.. Often 800 - 900 but this is now a TOT ISP screwup.. Noticing much higher ping times, server timeouts, etc since the change to PPPoE..

You're on the hill so it could be worth trying the CAT edo wireless card. Just need to get an adapter to have it work with your network. Friend has been using it for months and gets decent speed. He is also back on nanai but further north by .5 - 1 Km so closer to the CAT tower.

Was thinking of getting one as a backup system.. But things have been pretty reliable for a few months so kinda let it slide..
Speeds not that great tho.. I speed test better than my buddies D-O card but that means nothing if it gets unreliable.

Ya. I wouldn't think of it as ASDL VS D-O. More nothing VS D-O.

TOT Service in Pak Chong
Now I understand!
While I was in Pak Chong I needed to use the TOT internet connection in Noi's house because we had an issue in London which I could fix remotely. Guess what.. no service weekend (again).
Quick as a flash Noi puts on the moped helmet and off we pop up the hill and around the dale. (I thought we might be going to the internet shop). But soon we arrive at a large house in a prestige district and after a few pleasantries with the gate keeper we are in and banging on the door. A rather small but pleasant man summons us in and we sit down in his living room. Noi explains my predicament and he says he will do something. We bowl off again.
When we get back to the house a TOT van is already outside and some men are playing with the telegraph pole. At a signal from the engineer I hook up my computer and service is resumed!
Of course I did ask Noi who the man was. He is the boss of TOT - she says. How were we able to see him so quickly on a Saturday I said. Oh, he is married to my friend Noi said... and he must do for us.
Now if women were in charge.... lol

It's not my internet but it's killing me. Go with a back-up.

The D-O is the CAT Sierra wireless card thing right?
Anyone know where to buy one in Patong, what you need to show them, and how much they are? I am on a 6 month tourist visa.

For the CAT service.. Bast bet is the CAT office..
12900 for hardware (the faster PC card one 400 - 600 kbps) and 590 + 7% vat (630 IIRC) per month.. Might get a couple of free months when buying the card. Theres a slower USB one thats 4k for hardware and a phone 150 - 220kbps.. Same monthly..
Dont think you will get it on a tourist visa... I asked and they said a WP needed.. I think they will give one on a non imm O as I said my mother is over 50 and retired they said ok without WP.. I suspect I could swing it also..
I actually thought buying 10 cards and having a rental service for tourist visitors would be a valid easy biz for a GF.. Have each long stay hotel with a info card up etc.
