when 2 lanes are 3 & 4 lanes are 2
Did too much driving today during the day. Suffering from a heavy case of road rage.
On a 4 lane road, people are sure the line in the middle is there to line up the middle of thier car.
On a bend to the left the love to swoop out to the right lane then cut across into the left. Reverse for opposite bend.
Drive in the middle when there are two lanes.
At a busy intersection, force your right hand turn even if you don't have right of way or a green light.
If someone is overtaking you on the right, be sure to swerve out at the last second to block their overtake.
Madding.

Chill ATM - better get used to it ... the bigger the road the worse the problem.
You missed out the lack of indicating .... the drivers of big expensive SUV/Mercs who think they can drive anywhere at any speed (often not very fast) .... boy racers and underage M/C drivers .... all normal on any journey here!
A bit of advice also - dont ever look at some of the more aggresive nutters - twice had too hair raising car chases when I used to get road rage - I think I'm lucky they wernt armed !!

Total and complete lack of any understanding of lane control.. You see it all the time with 2 lane roads, just drive in the middle, sweep from one side to another, no indication, etc etc Of course the overtaking lane is just used constantly..
Also as Kev says the 'face' issue of luxury car drivers.. I am more important than you so you have to give way to me no matter what the rules are..
Tho I am guilty of having adapted too much.. I tend to just carve through traffic using any and all gaps now.. If they cant understand that one lane is for passing I will just carve through where ever theres a gap.. They want to sit in the fast lane for no reason I just go inside now..

One of their other quaint dangerous common manouvres is using the hard shoulder to undertake, irrespective that bikes, trikes etc all drive very slowly on the hard shoulder, saying that its a motorway they shouldn't even be on it!!

It all sounds like my trip to Italy!!!!
But in truth, I really love the way they drive in LOS, as its a kill or be killed mentality, without a bunch of rules that so many people come to trust to save their lives and don't work!!!!!
If you don't know what is going on around you, you shouldn't be on the road!!!!

Allow me to introduce myself.. although i've lived in Phuket for 2 years i'm new to this forum so hello to you all.
regarding traffic in phuket i couldn't agree more with all your comments. However i think sometimes we must sit back and realise that most of the thais especially in patong are from up north where anything goes on the roads albeit bad etiquette. most of us are from civilised countries where road appreciation and safety are paramount in every day life. Its just something we have to live with but there are so many things i enjoy here more that outweigh the road driving situation.
One thing i will add that bewilders me is the nonsense on patong beach road. The police are all for the one way system to improve the flow of traffic and reduce congestion. Ok fine, so why allow tuk tuks to park all the way down the right lane and even more crazy allowing advertisement trucks to amble down the left lane at 20mph thus holding back all the traffic. I know the tuk tuk mafia boss holds a lot of clout in Patong so maybe thats a difficult barrier to cross but surely there should be some fines impeded on slow drivers such as the advertisers who are basically just a real pain in the a@#e and the main cause for tail backs.

....be sure to swerve out at the last SECOND to block their overtake...will assume your former driving teacher did not advise that one...be carefull man
or you might run into you last second permanently...

good point.....on the main day of Songkran a couple of weeks ago they had all parked down there blocking of the lane on the shops side and also there were buses and other Thai toursit type operator mini-bus types as well stopped next to them so the whole one way system was down tpo one lane.....traffic was backed to a standstill back up to the main set of lights at Nania Rd.......just ridiculous....took us 1.5 hrs to get along Beach Rd...

Not sure what that is. But if it is something like a truck with ram bars on all sides, I'm game for that.
Think I need to do go-karting more often. Get the rage and racing out of my system.
Well the GF is off in the car today doing all the errands. I'm staying at home and avoiding the chaos. Friends GF is getting tickets for Spiderman tonight. He is at home. I think that is the only way to keep your sanity with these roads and drivers.

Happens on roads in Kuala Lumpur also.
A simple 1 lane road, can turn into 2 tight lanes.
Use of emergency lanes by irresponsible people.

I went along the beach road from just short of the holiday inn to Bangla the other week- 50 empty tuk tuks parked up along that one stretch. Put two thirds of them on the soccer pitch and torch them- not a solution just a start. Loads of people go on about a Pattaya style system- we all know it works but it will never happen here unfortunately as long as the prats don't realise its better to make lots of 20 bahts than one 200 baht. Economics and Thailand, now that's an oxymoron.

Well I'd like to complain about 7-11's, filling up the high streets, with their noisy little 'ding dong' door bells, we've got a fourth one now in Kamalala and they are becoming very dangerous with their hidden cigarettes and smoky bites openly on sale tempting you to get a bag full of them with mayo, tom sauce and mustard all mixed up together with pieces of cucumber so small you cannot for the life of you pick it out and end up with smoky rage!!
Bash the 7's!!!!!!!!!!!
