I would like to come to Thailand and work as a guest artist in a tattoo shop. Is that something I'll need a work permit for? If a work permit is necessary, how likely is it that i can get one for this purpose?

Welcome to the board MP.

Yes you would need a WP to do any kind of 'work' in Thailand ... even on occasion guys joining in jamming sessions get busted!

Tattoo artist is nearly certain to be an occupation reserved for Thai's only.

Yeah as stated definately needed and hard to get. There is a tatto artist in Patts who is a farang.. Runs his own shop tho so how he does it I dont know.

I wonder if the 'hobby' angle hes taking there is trying to slip through the system.. Like you have to pay for the ink but I do this as a hobby..

Which would fall flat if any MiB pushed it IMO..

You might be able to swing getting a student permit and say that you are here to learn their Thai techniques and then get taken under the wing of one of the shops for a while.

One of the shops opposite Taipan on Ratutit is supported by an English guy who took the Thai artist to England for a while.
