CAT CDMA Card + Windows Vista
On the CAT wireless CDMA card (aircard 580) box it says "Do not support Windows Vista".
I am curious as to whether anyone has found a work around for this so that you can use it with Windows Vista? I haven't used Vista yet myself, but just got a free copy courtesy of a new laptop. I can't think of a reason why there wouldn't be some sort of way you can get them going...
Cheers.

Yup...
It looks like it could be OK... but does anyone know if CAT have any of their own settings on the installation CD that they package with the card we buy here? If not, then the file linked to above should be OK.
Is all the username, password, CAT network settings etc programed into the actual wireless cards we have or is there some stuff from CAT on the installation CD we get?

The tech guy in Phuket town is knowledgeable and speaks ok English. Best you go into their office and talk with them. My guess is you are likely out of luck.
You could just try using the XP drivers. I've read that XP drivers to work for some devices under Vista. Take you laptop down to the office and they will do a free trial install.

Once again I have to sigh and just thing 'how Thai'.. No mac support or linux support I can kinda believe.. But to start a process knocking out discontinued out of date items into the PC market to only work on the last gen OS and with little or no current gen support.
Thats planning !!

There is support for the Mac in the OS BUT only on the older latops. The macbook pros use a newer slot then the old PC card slots.
The funny thing is they launched this program after the cards were already discontinued. I think they must have bought up a surplus on the cheap. yep, very thai.

I had read there were no mac drivers for this card.. Not only the hardware macbook pro issues..
And 100% agreement on the old stock scenario..

There are no standalone drivers. But native OS support. A friend is using the card on his old mac (G4) laptop without issue.
I can understand trying to make money on the card when the promotion had the service as free. But now that makes little sense. They should open it up to work with all cards. But there is an endless list of "should"s.

Yeah I am already running the card under Windows XP though. I only want to install Vista on this laptop if the card will work... depends whether I want to risk the pain in the ass of installing Vista, finding the card not working, and then having to reinstall XP.
Anyone else with Vista want to be a guinea pig?
