Broadband...

Whats the maximum speed you can get in Thailand for a reasonable price?

Im thinking later on me and my girl might move down during the winters.

But if im gonna be able to work with what im doing right now i would need a high speed connection, which means 0.5mbit would not be enough.

Would have to be able to transfer files between Europe and Thailand in atleast 100kbit/sec is that possible?

The CAT system is available is some areas.. 1 - 1.6 mbit is about the normal speeds on that.. Cost only mid 2k baht per month but its not available everywhere.

I also heard of someone paying about 20k for a 6mbit line that was actually fast also.. Theres options if you can spend this kind of money, leased line, clean cable to the home, etc..

100kbs.. Consistently.. Thats a tough one.. For me its a case of reliability.. Power has been out for 2 full days out of the last 10 (unusual perhaps but still true) and nothing works to a western level of uptime internet, phones, power, hardware.. all fail much more regularly.

Who's that with? Last I heard something like that speed was 100k/month up. For 20K you only got a normal leased line which is ADSL speeds. Who is offering this? I'm already spending half that so I might as well go for this.

For OP.

Got with CAT on CAT line or Ji-Net on TT&T line and you will be fine.

To get those speeds you will likely need to use some sort of transfer management program where you can open multiple connections.

The real hard part is getting the lines. I picked where I live based on line availability so I knew I could get internet. Some people wait for years and nothing happens.

Bumped into Ben the other day.. he says one of his customers has a line thats 6mbit or 8mbit and they get a pretty real speed on that.. But that it was high prices.. I am thinking it was 20k from memory but it was just something in out chat it may have even been 14k ?? Honestly cant remember.. These are just regular ADSL lines tho.

I also got a flyer from TOT the other day for 6Mbit ADSL lines for biz.. It was in Thai so no info on contention ratios etc.

I have heard Island Technology having leased lines at high speed for high money.. Worth a try.

Will look into it. Won't go near TOT. Even for a business line I doubt they really care about uptime or service levels.

I'll shoot Ben a PM.

i assume you`re meaning 100kb/sec...
usually you get this speed with a 1MBit line, so i think that the offer that Nuntanabkk postet is really cheap!
599Baht/Month for a 1024/512kbit/sec line is inmho cheap!

I'm running with TOT and I'm able to work and send files no problem to clients in Europe but the its the reliability that gets on your nerves. I'm in Nai Harn and the lines only just got up and running again after 4 days. This can really get on your nerves.
