MA in TESOL and Applied Linguistics

I'm about 12 months away from completing my Master's Degree in TESOL and Applied Linguistics from a UK university.

Will this qualification get my foot in the door for an ESL position at an international school or am I wasting my time?

Anybody found a decent teaching position with this qualification?

You will certainly get a job with that.. But the pay is awful here.. I hear that super qualified people with years of experience, in the best BKK schools.. Top out at 70 - 100k baht per month.. and those jobs are 1 in 100..

If you look at Japan and Korea where people with your skills get high paying work I know what I would do.

Go to Taiwan for a year or two and work in the Public school system. The money is good and the work load isn't bad. After that apply to Hong Kong under the new PNET program and make some serious money. With your qualifications and a couple of years experience you should be able to do it.
Forget about Thailand unless it is because of some other reason. For someone
with your quals. there are several better places.

Cool What about me......

I've got an "ordinary" engineering degree (electronics), since there's no future in that here in the UK, I'm looking at doing a CELTA in the autumn.

Should I look at a similar route to mentioned above?

If I can be "comfortable" thats more than emough for me.

I hate to say it.. But teaching english here simply isnt 'comfortable'.. It will be constant hand to mouth living, with no security, no savings for later life, no pension, nothing even for a rainy day or sickness.

Simply put too many people want to give it a go in Thailand.
