where to buy really loud car horn?
I want to buy a car horn that is in the 100-110 decibel range. It needs to be loud enough so people hear it on a busy road while I'm still at least 30 meters away.
Does anyone know a good place to pick one of these up? To be honest I haven't looked around. I'd rather just go to one place that for sure stocks these.

I'd suggest a 12 volt truck horn. But I have no idea where to get one in Phuket. Are there any wrecking yards there?

Hook it up. The air cylinder of the horn must be mounted vertically, with no more than a 15 degree variance from vertical and the air intake tube face toward the back of the motorcycle, or it maybe routed there with a small plastic tube. View the Stebel Nautilus installation instructions.
Depending on the make and model of your motorcycle, mounting the horn may require additional fasteners or brackets; these can be easily crafted from aluminum or stainless-steel.

Thanks guys. I am hoping to find something and have it installed here.
I think the truck horn could be the easiest, but it isn't loud enough. I was thinking I could double up and install two.
I've never seen a wrecking yard, but there are lots of auto body places that have cars laying around. Perhaps they have some parts. Otherwise parts here from the dealer isn't very expensive.

Don't know where you came up with the criterion for 100-110dB. That isn't that loud. Generally speaking the emitted sound pressure level (dB SPL) is given a 1 meter. Further, the attenuation of sound in a free field is inverse proportional to the square of the distance traveled. In other words every time you double the distance the sound level is reduced 3dB. At 30 meters that is about 15dB. A devise emitting 100dB @ 1 meter will be heard as 85dB at 30 (32) meters. A gas powered lawnmower is about 90dB.
An increase of 10dB is 10 times the sound intensity, however, 10dB is interpreted by your ears as being twice the level.
I would set the criterion a bit higher. When I help customers specify audible emergency warning devises for indoor use the recommendations are generally 115dB. 115db also happens to be OSHA's maximum continuous exposure level for unprotected workers, however, at 115dB a worker may still be exposed for 15 minutes continuously over a workday.

I read that 70 was the loudness of your average car horn. But busy street traffic is also 70db. 100 is a walkman at max and 110 is supposed to be front row at a rock concert. So basically I am trying to get significantly over the background noise (within a certain range).
But it could be more useful to be less scientific. I just want something really loud but not dangerous. I need to wake some thais up from their sleep-driving before I get within a few meters.
Could be LIL air horn suggestion could be the best. Seems you can get air horns upto 120db, but those are externally mounted for trucks.

Don't know where you are getting your data from, however, quoting one source or another there surely will be variations. That being said 70 dB being the loudness of a car horn is ludicrous, unless you are far away. Normal speech at 3 feet (1 meter) is between 60 and 70dB.
The sound intensity of a Walkman is hard to gauge hard to gauge as the headset is inserted into/coupled to the ear and distance is irrelevant (typically such measurement are done using a 2cc coupling which is the nominal cavity size of the human ear).
As for the front row of a rock concert being 110dB - keep dreaming. Most people that go to a "good" concert suffer from a Temporary Threshold Shift (TTS), which is only applicable well above 110dB; try at least 120 at the front row and 130-140dB in close proximity to the speakers.
For most people (it varies) the threshold of acoustically introduced pain in between 140 and 145 dB.
... anyway ... you are looking for a horn. Make it loud as you want it, but don't ask for 110dB (or whatever) as it may not suit your needs.

Guess this doesn't say much for the US educational system.
Intensity and the Decibel Scale
However it rates, I just need to find a loud one to get them to wake up and get the frack out of the way.

Just buy one as loud as you can get it ... the truck horn is a good start.
Further reference: Decibel - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Slight error in article: ref threshold of hearing as being 20μN/m2 or 20μPA. That is the definition of 0dB SPL not the threshold of heating (HL), At 1 kHz HL is SPL +7dB. Relative to HL there are actually multiple dB scales: dBA, dBB and dBC all relative to the phon curves (interpretation of sound levels based on frequency and sound pressure level).
Here is a better reference for approximate daily exposure levels and examples: Howstuffworks "What is a decibel, and what is the loudest sound I can listen to before it hurts my ears?". It lists a rock concert at 120 dB.

Just did a round trip to the airport. I was thinking that doubling up on the standard car horn would be better, if possible. If I get a truck horn, then they may not think it is my car. Maybe triple up
Also need to get a directional mobile phone jammer. They get on their phone, go slow, and start drifting between lanes or just driving in the middle of two. So jam the phones then start honking.
Yep, it's time for full on electronic warfare.
The only good thing is if you can get up to speed on the better roads, the cops don't really seem to care. Blasted by some today at 140k and I wasn't the least bit concerned about a ticket.

From what I can see they dont need a phone to just drift between lanes and or drive in the middle of two... Sticking to lanes just doesnt seem understood.. Watch them going up and down patong hill, complete free for all.

Loud Noises
If you can't get a loud horn you could always get one of those PA systems that the Thai Boxers use that make lots of noise and annoy everyone, that would shift them.
'Toooniiiteee Toooonnnittte geeeeettt ouuuuut ooooffff thhhheee rrooooaddd'
I like this dont have a clue what it means but makes me smile

I hope I am correct in thinking you are just taking the p*ss, the noise levels in Patong are one of the worst things about this place....
..along with the music on Bangla
..the driving skills of Thais
..quality of service
etc, etc
What other things do you guys hate about this place?
