sssssLOW Season

hey guys was wondering whether life changes much for the expats over Low season......

are you finding you work (sorry don't mean to scare you with that word...55555) a bit more with less distraction from us regular visitors texting you at all hours enticing you to come downtown to have a drink/game of golf/bowls etc......

is it a good time to apply yourself to something you haven't gotten round to for a while.....take a little holiday somewhere in LOS while the accommodation prices are more reasonable.....or hit your "home" countries with airfares (assuming they are) cheaper....

Do you enjoy having less people about in town......does the rain eventually drive you batty....do you find yourself more likely to be thinking of a return to your "home" or another country during this time

just wondering whether it is all just the same same or if you have patterns during the yearly cycle

Personally I far prefer low season.. I actually found last high season more stressful than ever in this town and would really consider a home visit during then if I knew which way home was !! As it stands theres no where thats more home than where I am (or where I can go back to ) so thats a non starter.

The travel around is a good thing.. I am heading to Hua Hin tomorrow.. Tho some of the least visited spots totally close and you dont get to see all the attractions in some places as they are not running..

Weather doesnt bother me.. It nice to have some seasons and change.. And its not raining all the time.. Been great for the last while, bit grey today. Also its nice to not have it burning hot nonstop.

I really didn't like this past high season either.

I do like Low season and have been over to patong far more often. But like you said it is easier to travel out so it is a good time to leave thailand. But I'd prefer to be away more this high season.

is it a good time to apply yourself to something you haven't gotten round to for a while.....take a little holiday somewhere in LOS while the accommodation prices are more reasonable.....or hit your "home" countries with airfares (assuming they are) cheaper.... Unfortunately airfares are not much cheaper - but I find I have to get away from Phuket every 3 or 4 months or likely to get 'island fever' - in some ways Phuket is a bit too small for me.

Do you enjoy having less people about in town......does the rain eventually drive you batty....do you find yourself more likely to be thinking of a return to your "home" or another country during this time Low season does not really mean much less traffic any more - school holidays are great for culling the traffic problems. The rain can get a bit much sometimes, but beats weather in UK (its 14'C in London now - Ouch - winter in July!!).

just wondering whether it is all just the same same or if you have patterns during the yearly cycle

After a while living here Nels - 2 years ++ - then life becomes normal - even the all nighters with that Norweigian ba$tard !!

good post to get some insight Nels.

It seems we are all in agreement. I too like low season for pretty much the same reasons as stated above. I don't like it too quite on a night out ut high season when u cant get a seat in MTB i tend to get the ****.

Weather - i only dont like the rain when i am going out in patong - otherwise i like it - especially at night - drops me right off to snoozyland

So we are all in agreement then cos I too prefer low season, less choice of fooderees in kamala but like the weather better and less people in patong is to my liking and yes Nelce with it being cooler some days you can get a little more work done.

Thanks Lads....was thinking that might be the case.....must be nice just to kick back and take it easy for a while...

from what you guys have said above it might even be better for me (*if I eventually make it out there) to travel in high/ peak season particularly if going to somewhere not so affected by seasonal price increases eg Cambodia Laos etc

*groan...it's not too simple to make my plans at the moment...solicitors are getting involved in my life with sales of businesses etc....it's more of an aggravation than an impedement....just slowing things down and making it more complicated than it needs be.....and bloody expensive.....still i am plowing along like it is not an issue having some time to myself here and there and keeping things as positive as I can

I’m kind of in two minds on this issue. Living in Kamala, I think we experience arguably the biggest change in the seasons, most notably with regard to the number of tourists. Right now the restaurants along the beach (and those on the beach road itself) have almost completely shut down, which leaves me with way fewer options. Also, swimming in the ocean is not an option most days and the beach itself is not very appealing.

Granted, it is a bit hotter in the high season, and Patong might be a bit too busy at times, but that does not bother me much. (As a matter of fact, I’ve even found Patong to be too slow on occasion in the low season.)

Personally, I prefer mid-October to mid-December the most. Nowadays it is just raining too much and the power cuts are way too frequent for my liking.
