There is this place on Koh Samui where you cook your own food on the grill. Is there anything like that on Phuket?

Just on your left about 30M before T in road. Baby back ribs are good. Eat there a couple of times per trip.

And if you're looking for the best steak on the island....The Coffee Shop in Karon. The owner and cook Tony cooks on a grill out front. Not cheap...but great steak. a 16oz strip loin cost me 700B, but boy was it good.

While looking at the pics, I dont recognise the place. Dont look like the BBQ Hut I have in mind on rat-u-thit, unless they revamped everything. It used to be bamboo/wood bars etc. Or my memory may be wrong, will have to look closer next time.

The website/menu was dated Jan 2006, so maybe it is how you remember it 5555

Nicke you are right about the decor. It is wooden/bamboo these days. The pics on the website don't look anything like it looks today... or at least two months ago when I was last there.

I guess it is completely new owner/menu these days, I think Jonas told me maybe 2 years ago it was for sale and he looked into it among other places.

I went there in Oct 2006, the tuk tuk driver didnt know where it was, i asked the hotel staff, they told me to tell the tuk tuk driver to go to the Merlin Inn, just next door.

Might go back there again for another try as the 1st time didnt do justice. The food was cold and the toilet wasnt working.

BBQ hut does good ribs, burgers, and basic faux mex.. Not a bad breakfast in the hungry man or breakfast buritto style also..

I find they can be hit and miss tho maybe multiple cooks.. Its not uncommon for them to be 'out' of something like refried beans (its a mex for goods sake) and that kind of thing makes it a bit of a gamble.

LOL Lil, out of refried beans is no as bad as Au Bon Pain being 'out of bread' and Pizza Hut being 'out of pizza dough'!!

Both of which I have encountered. Unbeleivable!

Was there about 1 month ago. Looks basically the same, but the bar is changed. But it is close enough to recognize it.

I agree here with Lil, I have found it a little hit and miss with the grub, selection is quite good but sometimes its quite overcooked or presented very poorly but cheaper then Coyote's.

Us team 'LOVE BAR' bowlers, ('champions of the underdogs and soi dogs'), had a little taster session on Sunday after the big game, it was pretty damn good, Tacos, Fajitas, Ribs, Chicken Wings, Brown Rice, but I did notice they had run out of refrieds, must be a regular problem.

Generally I don't mind if they run out of stuff at a regular restaurant. While it is annoying, I do think it means they care about freshness. restaurant serving old food can be a real problem in low season.

I kind of agree.. I dont mind being told one item is off the menu but when a sandwich shop is out of bread... or a pizza shop is out of pizza dough.. or a mex is out of refried beans..

Well you know your in Asia
