Non-immigrant Visa
i,m from uk and going to los in october for extended holiday. i was just wondering how hard/easy it was to obtain a non immigrant category O visa from the hull consulate. ( i would be visiting friends) I have read lots of threads on this and people say you need a friendly consulate, by this do they mean that its just the luck of the draw on wether i get one or not? also i maybe stay for a year so would it be best for me to apply close to when i,m going or to apply now. thanks.

Hull is currently a 100% for non imm O's..
Apply a few weeks before you wish to travel.

Appplied for one in the post, they turned it around same day received, so got it back within 4/5 days. This year went to see them at Hull, met Alan Taylor (might have got that name wrong but cannot be bothered to look it up). It took me 2 hours to drive to Hull and was in there less than 10 minutes. They are so very friendly and helpful and offered to provide a postal service for me to save me having to fly back to the UK, just have to send the application from outside Thailand and have a mailing address for its return, 5 day turn around they reckon if using courier.

Exactly.. People on Thaivisa (mods) locked threads and deleted my posts and claimed it was illegal to post a passport for application.. They then removed my posts quoting Alan (yes it is Taylor) emails showing it was ok..
I will have one processed while in India.. I can do the same while in Bali etc..
As long as your not in Thailand they are happy with it.

I'll email the consulate anyway, but does anyone know if you can get another non-imm O when you already have a current valid one?
I've got 4 months left on my current visa, but am back in UK now. When I return next month I want to have a fresh 12 months rather than have to sort out another around Xmas time

Some of the Thai Visa advertisers offer courier services to and from the Thai consulate for a fee. I guess the mods there don't want to bite the hand that feeds them by allowing posts on their boards showing how easy it is to do it yourself directly... thereby cutting out the advertiser's services.
This is good info to know really... that good posts/information are being filtered there for the benefit of the adverts, but at the expense of BM's and guests there.

@SiamGecko, yes you can get a second non imm O before the old one has expired.
@Tanman, I dont think its an advertiser thing.. One mod in particular disagreed with me.. He then used his mod power to stop me proving him wrong, deleted my posts, wouldnt let me post facts from people (embassies, consuls) that showed he was wrong.
In general the Thai visa sections for visa apps are great, lots of current and accurate answers, we just disagreed on this topic and I know I was correct, I felt he made it a bit personal by pushing his views and not allowing me to post accurate info simply as it made him wrong. As a mod he had to be lord of his domain kinda thing.

I just wonder if Hull can be used by all nationalities or just English citizens?
Just read at Hull website, all forms needed etc there.

Hulls policy is they will issue a visa to a non uk national 'if they have a valid reason to apply there'.. thats pretty vague but what Alan said was if a non uk national was living or working in the uk.. Or was on extended vacation there.. Or had other specific reason to apply in the uk.. They would process their app fine.
I dont think that would extend to an overseas postal application tho.. Pushing it there..
Alan was always great at answering my emails fast and really trying to work out the fine points and grey areas that I was picking his brain over. I found him a great person to bounce questions off..

I've found him to be exactly as you say Lil, he always answers any of my questions and usually instantly, once he took a day and sent apologise as it was a bank holiday in UK or whatever they were shut a day for.
He said to me that he would deal with a non uk persons application but as you said only if there was reasons why they could not apply to their own consulate but then I wondered what the Thais would think with a visa issued by a UK based consulate in say a Swedes passport, I'm presuming by that remark the words are not in English on visas issued in other countries but their own language.

Well, we can apply for visa in Malaysia and Singapore without being from Malaysia or Singapore, so why is UK different? The visas issued in Malaysia are in English, not Malay or chinese. Even my first visa issued in Sweden was a stamp with English text.

Yes Nicke but the difference is that you are in Malaysia, we were talking about being in Malaysia or outside Thailand and posting the application to the UK, which is fine for a UK person but the Consul said he would wonder why you hadn't posted your application to your own countries consulate.
If you were in the UK then there would be no problem because that would be reason enough.

There are only 5/6 consulates in the country and by reading here, it seemed Hull offered a professional service and also a very obliging one.
Dennis, use the search facility at the top of the screen on any subject you need to know about, if then you cannot find it start a thread, or make a post. I genuinelly think it will help you with a lot of your earlier questions.
