Im sold.
The message board has convinced me I need to visit asap to recce before my trip in December so Ive decided to come at the end of this month.
I arrive the morning of 31st August and depart the morning of the 10th Sept.
Can anyone reccomend a good hotel, close to the nightlife that is visitor friendly and also reccomend the best way of getting about the island as I intend to check out beaches/golf courses best place to rent longterm etc.
Guess Ill be checking out Mai Thai day one!
Id also love to have a beer or 2 with some BM's, perhyaps be introduced to the golfing delights by dodger and other devotees and maybe even listen firsthand to the wisdom (cynical but straight) of livinglos.
Any advice for a first time visitor to Phuket will be gratefully received.
Thanks guys, hope to meet some of you shortly.
Den

Getting around I'd suggest a motorbike, small twist and go 125cc. 150 bht per day, you will soon get used to driving style over here. One tip, whatever you do, just do it positively, even if its driving the wrong way up a one way road, just do it with conviction, no one will get mad, but if you hesitate in one decision, some other bike will nip in front of you etc.
Hotel you will not go wrong by booking The Summer Breeze, see banner ad on this site for contacting.
Golf is every thursday afternoon, you would be most welcome to join us and if you pm me before with your cell phone number I arrange to pick you up.

Thanks dodger, I have PM'd bill and will take your advice re transport. Would an absolute beginner cramp your style on the course? If not should I bring clubs or rent?

Depends how often you intend to play. Rental costs are 800 to 1200 bahts depending on course and set required and generally are not very good quality.
New player, cramping our style??? No we play with Nicke every week!!!!!
