hi there ,
i have a new passport from my ambassy because my old one is not valid anymore in a few months , what do i do with the old one which has my arrival,depart card and stamp in it .
can i just go on my next visa run to the border with 2 passports and start with the new one or is it better to go first to a immigration office and let them stamp my new passport first .

Can you not use your "old passport" to get out of Thailand and your "new passport" to get back in ?

It does seem odd that you have this situation, because normally you need at least 6 months left on your current passport in order to enter. Perhaps some more information is needed here, i.e. are you talking about another visa exemption (30 day stamp) or else using the next leg of a long term visa ?

Go to immigration and sort that out, or you can do it at the border if you have time.

I got a new passport in 2004, flied to Hat Yai and got on a mini bus to Penang. The problem was in my case, it took 30 minutes to sort it out as only some staff could do it and they couldnt find the stamp for that etc, while the bus and the people was waiting for me.

Make sure you bring both passports.

Diz, my embassy cancelled my old one by punching a hole when I got the new one.

i think i wil go to the immigration office first to safe any problems at the border .

I did exactly the same earlier this year, just went to the border with both passports and they put a different type stamp in my new passport and also the new entry one but told me I would have to continue showing the old passport as well until the 12 month finally ran out..

Diz you are right about the 6 months bit but mine had 8 months when I got my 12 month im o visa and then of course expired before I needed a new one.

2 months ago i went to BKK to obtain a new passport from British Embassy. On arrival back in Phuket i went straight to the Immigration office in Phuket town to get them to transfer the stamp from old passport to new one. They said there is no need to transfer just get chop in old passport and on arrival new chop in new passport. As for the visa in the old passport i'm not sure as i got my 1 year 'B' visa in the new passport.
