Soon to be Expats (Hopefully)

We have a son who is married to a Thai girl and along with their family live in Phuket.
Last winter we visited them for three weeks and fell in love with the place.
As our son and wife would like us to move out there, we are visiting again this winter, but this time for 3 months to give us a better idea if we could settle before selling up in the UK.
Can anyone please give us any tips for while we are out there? We realise that living would be quite different to holidaying there. Any advice on activities for active 66/69 year olds, e.g. fitness centres/Health Clubs, Places to meet other UK. Expats, etc. would be appreciated

Clubs to join

There are more and more people choosing to retire in Phuket. There is the British Business Association, numerous golf courses and many clubs to join to meet other people. Check out the Phuket Gazzette for events and clubs also there are some charities that could use people and that would be a great way to meet people.
If you move here you will think you are much younger as many expats your age act much younger.

I'm only 42 and I act like I'm 22 just ask Nicke

We are looking forward to going to Phuket now and just dreaming and planning.
We would like to go snorkelling while we are there, and we are practising our swimming to keep fit in readiness.
Another place we would like to visit which we didn't manage last time was the Thai Village. I don't know if any of you have been there?
As we don't play golf we wondered if there were any fitness clubs etc in Phuket.
We will actually be staying in the N.E. of the island not that far from the airport. (Not Laguna by the way), but we will have the use of a car.
Sorry we can't take any passengers in our suitcase not even well behaved grandsons, or tourguides

Mate of mine lives out by Chalong, he has paid, what seemed to be, quite reasonable money for use of the facilities at one of the luxury hotels near him.
Of course there is Phuket country club. Once you've been there a while you can get a discount at the Green Man ( best roast lamb on Phuket)

Thanks for that useful information. Do you know the name of the hotel?
Sounds good about the roast lamb. Last time we were out there we never saw any lamb. It seemed to be mainly chicken & pork. Very nice it was too.
