Bad luck LIL and Gecko. At least its only the buildings damaged, and you are safe. I hope you are both fixed up with alternative accommodation soon.
Nice once again to see offers of assistance from fellow forum members.

Thanks to everyone for your support and offers of help, its very kind of you. I am meeting my landlord during the week to sort out rent refunds etc and will also move the rest of my stuff out too. Not very much left there so will be no bother at all.
LiL is fairing alot worse here because he has alot of furniture and valuables etc that needs to be salvaged......quick smart!

The rain did ease off briefly this afternoon....but monsooning again now :-(
Here's some more pics taken from the end of the Beverly Hills apartments. You can see part of the balcony has fallen away from the corner one. Also pic of the crack by the pool which has been there at least a month and probably of no concern....I'm not a structural engineer but it doesn't look too clever to me!...and the apartment for sale...guy is asking 7mil....no thanks very much.

Well it looks like its clung on for another day !! Tho 5 day forecast is 'heavy rains' which doesnt bode well.
As of now theres 2 main problems for me (and Finley and his missus).. 1 we both need somewhere to live, ideally Patong / Kamala but that can extend to Karon / Kathu or perhaps Kata. At this point anything thats nice-ish is considered due to impending high season. Plus points go to places that are set up to move in (have TV and or net.. Tho can get CAT wireless on return) furnished or unfurnished is possible as we have stuff.
Living space could be anything from a 1 bed (or even big big studio I guess) to use as a base while I arrive and start house hunting right up to another multi bedroom villa we could share. I cant imagine I am going to rapidly stumble into a home to stay in long term (but its possible) during the high season so this is probably more a base I can jump into temporarily for maybe 6 months.
Then the second thing is storage, I will know more today on how fins going but it was a 5 bedroom place full of stuff, so while the offers are thankfully appreciated we need to look at a space like a large double car garage min (and thats on ground level easy access to load it up) to fill if we dont find unfurnished places to live. I think fins trying chalong storage but there is an over whelming 'mess' as it hasnt so much been moved as just chucked into a pile in a panic !! I have a couple of thoughts I am chasing down also.
So if people on the local scene can keep eyes and ears open with a view to those 2 problems all ideas are gratefully received. I think theres quite a bunch all doing the same and I am sure that it will work out somehow.

MiniVDO: A landslide in Patong early on Friday injured 3 people while the municipality ordered evacuation of the area.
To see or download mini-video, go to ThaisNews (in IE6 browser right-click on white camera button at top of page, then "save target as.." to save on your computer, and watch from there. Other browsers or versions may be slightly different.)
Torrential heavy rain caused a landslide on Nanai Road in Patong and injured 3 people living in a construction camp below. The incident occurred at 1am on Friday morning on a private property, affecting both houses and an apartment block above. The buildings were left precariously on the edge of the slide, with their foundations clearly exposed. Residents rushed out to evacuate, help each other and later recovered their belongings to safer areas, while officials from Patong Municipality rushed the 3 injured to Patong Hospital. Most of the expensive properties were occupied by foreigners. Deputy Mayor of Patong, Chairat Sukhaban, told Andaman News that the private developers of the land and the properties have been told to not stay in the area, until walls and support structures have been fully inspected and strengthened or destroyed, while police will investigate any suspicious developers. His office is monitoring 8 landslide prone locations with location maps given out to people. Mitigation officers and volunteers are on standby 24 hours a day as heavy rain continued to fall all weekend, so the threat of further landslides continues. People who are affected by the landslide or any disaster there are advised to report to Patong Municipality at 076 342600. The service is open 24 hours.

MiniVDO: Landslide monitoring skills were discussed with landslide-prone locations identified for Patong.

Disaster prevention and mitigation officials gathered to learn and discuss methods and skills to monitor landslide in Patong also on Friday. The meeting was conducted under the cooperation of the Mineral Resources Department, Kasetsart University, Asian Disaster Preparedness Center, UNDP and funded by the Norwegian Government, presented a risk-based assessment for landslide mitigation in Patong. Participants also learnt about signs of landslides including cracks. They also showed the results of Norwegian and Japanese experts’ surveys which had come up with hazard maps in 6 coastal provinces in post-Tsunami areas including Phuket. Safe construction manuals will be published for developers while the rain water measurement tools or inclinometer also be installed in prone areas. Dr Suttisak Soralump, Head of the Geotechnical Engineering Research & Development Center of Kasetsart University, who identified risky areas for landslides especially in Patong revealed that study indicated that only 2 locations out of 220 landslides in the six Andaman coastal provinces are caused by nature with others manmade. In Patong 95% occurred due to land excavation, road construction, buildings on hilly slopes, with improper engineering. All caused the loss of human lives and properties.

Anyone know of a removals company or a man + truck for hire ???

Don't know anyone with truck but happy to help if needed just pm me and I'll bring the dmen remouval team.
If you really do end up wanting a penthouse here or just 3 bed apartment on the hills, again send me a pm. cos I know of two penthouses one really big that will probably do a deal over a 4 -6 month rental, giving you time to find the Handley Hacienda.
Let the other one go, didn't know you were considering it as a back up but never fear, dodger's here!! will need about a 2 days notice as both owners etc are away and will have to enquire via email.

Dodge, what I need now are options..
I have a few things being found for me.. Ranging from a monster clifftop pool villa that I cant really afford with a landlord that doesnt really want to rent it, to a 12k roof over my head on a estate in Kathu.
I am due to hear today about a great location unfurnished 3 bed (no pool, sob.. I sooo love my hangover dips) in Patong but I fear high price.. I have a rough and in need of TLC and work, pool place in kamalala for 20k (but may need a lot of TLC.. polishing a turd perhaps and spending $$ on making someone elses house nice)..
Please let me know (PM or email) the options on apartments there.. Penthouse maybe also.. the more I know of the more I can work with. Also gotta remember my buddy needs a home... So he would be very interested in possible apartment there if priced right and turnkey.
Same goes for anyone reading.. Interested in all rental places in Patong / kamala.
BTW thanks for the PM's of help guys.. Trucks and places for storage etc etc etc.. Great to hear..

If Sef really wants that one B and you can sort me another out, I will let him have it. His need is greater than my want.
No probs for me guys, really.

Hi Everyone
My name is Eal and I am new to the forum!
I am a civil engineer UK trained. I have carried out this week a visual inspection of the land slide and surroundings, comissioned by a group of property owners in the immediate area of the land slide.
I wish to make everyone aware that the area is highly un-stable and further occurances are extrmely likely in the short term. Fundamentally, pile driving and the removal of the vegetation over the years has de-stabilised the soil layers.
Anyone living high - low in the area of Nani should seriously consider relocation forthwith.
Please inform your friends that live in the area. As the Land Slide can occur at any time and at any point in the nani area.
My findings have disturbed me.
Please take note of this post.

Dennis i've pm'd Lil with a few options, there are normal apartments for you if you wish to switch with Lil or indeed other penthouses that might be available, also found him one or two more options to consider in the village.
He has a lot of good friends and a lot of them are really in the know when it comes to properties, I'm sure between us we can sort something when Lil wants it, but really nice of you to offer.
