Internet problems?
Is anyone else having problems with Maxnet? My connection has been all but useless for the last few days. I can't decide if it's the adsl box or the connection itself, although I'm beginning to think there's something wrong with the box - which is why I ask if I'm the only one having trouble.
The connection is usually ok when I reboot everything fresh, but within an unspecified time it starts to flake out: I can't get to all web sites anymore or they become super slow, my email might randomly either not be able to access the pop servers at all or it might just be unable to download the messages, things die inexplicably. Often the problems are with servers in Europe while Thailand continues to work fine, which is why I can't be sure it's to do with the box only. Also, ftp to Europe has long since stopped working in any decent fashion in the evenings, although in the mornings it's usually ok.
This sort of thing happens on both our laptops so it's not just one computer. If I reset the box, it might be ok again for another half hour, it might not. I've also tried to take the wireless out of the equation while the connection is bad, made no difference so it's not the wireless router.
It's driving me up the walls... I really need this connection to be up and working! Any insight?...

Search the forum. Tons of internet posts.
Short answer is don't use TT&T's internet. Order Ji-Net for your TT&T line.

It's been fine up to now and we've had the line for a year.
I was just asking if anyone has trouble right now, as in is there something going on with the lines. I haven't seen postings recently complaining about bad connections.

Sounds like your adsl modem/router too me, I had similar problems that started to occur in the past and buying a new router solved my problems.

I had a similar problem on my puter here in Oz...Same symptoms as yours.
I sent my puter away to a techie friend & he's repaired it (albeit, it's still not like it once was).....He told me I had many viruses in the system.

He couldnt get rid of the main virus could he .... YOU ... Tee Hee
Back to Perky ... I've had the same problems in the past ....
As you can still connect then it is not your modem. It is most likely that Maxnet has only allocated a narrow bandwidth for the international servers so that is why you are able to access Thai sites as usual but international sites are so slow.
I use TT&T with LoxInfo and this was the problem I had ... after they widened the bandwidth the problem was solved.

I have an up-to-date F-Secure scanning realtime on both computers and mine also has a software firewall so I'd say it's unlikely that I have viruses.
However, come to think of it, the firewall has been known to cause some network problems on occasion, so maybe when the connection dies again I'll see if turning it off makes a difference.

I've been afraid of that... it's their adsl modem so I'd have to convince them that there is something wrong with it. Or else buy my own and just not use theirs - we used a borrowed modem at the last house because the modem we were given with the connection was too restrictive for my man's gaming ...

I've been thinking this might be at least a part of it. In the mornings it's often better, I guess more people in my area are out to work and not using their connection, whereas on most evenings it's practically hopeless.
I've also wondered if the box might be overheating and behaving strangely because of that, we have it on most of the time and it does get very hot.

You can get a modern ADSL2+ router with wifi and some external networking ports for 2800 baht or so. Just make sure you have login/password for your account so you can setup the new router.

Consider the past year as lucky.
Unless your router has a sudden Euro-hatred/pro-thai complex it is an ISP issue. In thailand some ISPs treat the internet like two things (national & international). Give them a call and see what the issue is with the international bit. Keep in mind that each time you reset the modem, you are reseting your connection to your ISP. There could be something screwy on their end that is giving better service to newer connections. Stranger things have happened.
FYI, you are very lucky to have a TT&T line. It is best paired with Ji-Net to be issue free.

We're moving soon and I was looking into Ji-Net (though I don't know what phone line we have yet) and the prices are just stupid. I want at least a 1 Mbit connection which is what we had with Maxnet, and Ji-Net want 8500 baht/month for it! Am I missing something here? I was only paying a bit over 1000 baht for the Maxnet... For that kind of price difference I think I'll put up with the flakiness!
