Patong Beach - guesthouse/hotel check?
All,
I'll be coming to Patong Beach in February next year, and I need to sort out my accommodation.
I'm looking for somebody in Patong to go up to a particular guesthouse and have a look, just to make sure that it looks okay, and is not a 'building site'.
It is a guesthouse that I stayed in during my previous two visitis to LOS, but when I checked their web-page a few weeks back I see that they are building a new guesthouse/hotel. I'd like to make sure that the work has been completed, and that it looks okay. It would be good to see some photo's of the place, rather than the ones on their web-site.
If somebody has got a spare hour or so, and the chance to wander up to the northern end of the beach, and can check this place for me, please PM me for details.
Thanks ...

Sorry cannot tell you that its top secret monger visit, if you found out he would probably have to kill you.
I'll pop up to the northern end of town today and just check every guesthouse, got a few hours spare today, then report back here on each one individually.
Also GMT, think taking a look in November for a report on your holiday in February is a little bit premature, how are we to guess what will start or stop construction near your mystery guesthouse in 3 months??

Thanks to 'Soupdragon', the visit has been done ... I'm just waiting for him to send me some photo's he took.
The place is called the Phuket Sevenseas, their website is Welcome to Seven Seas hotel in Patong beach, Phuket, Thailand. .
The location is at the northern end of Patong Beach, up behind the Novotel. It's only a small guesthouse, when I stayed there previous times it only had 10 rooms. There's no pool, but you're only about 50m from the beach and sea, so that's not a problem. It's also quite a way from Soi Bangla, so it's quiet and peaceful. I enjoyed my stays there; each evening walk down to Soi Bangla (about 1km) and it works up a nice thirst for when I get there. I thought of it as my second burst of daily exercise (no guesses on the first!).
As I mentioned above, they told me that they were building a hotel, although I think that they are just upgrading the guesthouse. There should be a pool, and now wi-fi in reception; but the pictures on the website are mostly 'artist impression' types, so I wanted to see what it really looked like.
As far as I'm aware, it is 'GF' and no 'joiner fee' (based upon an email reply from the hotel owner a few weeks ago.
Please feel free to go and have a look yourself and post some comments.

Bit far away from the action but it looks like a nice quiet place to stay. Reasonable rates. One to keep in mind.

If this opinion is based on the website then check the photos below taken 17/11/2007, bit different. I did speak with the owner, nice lady, and she said the place will be finished "soon", she seemed genuine enough and there was certainly a lot of activity around the build site. Just be aware there is little/no seaview as suggested by the website.

Bugger spent the last few days photographing all the guesthouses down the northern end of Patong was just about to post my extensive report when Soupdragon beat me too it.
How did he know which one it was? have we got a new deduceriser surpassing even my deducerising skills, think so, well done SD.
Oh and sorry GMT if my previous response came over a little harsh, must have overdone my cynical pills that day, sorted now

Sorry to steal your thunder Dodger, as for me outdoing your deducerising skills I wouldn't even start to begin to think I am in your league. Got a PM from GMT.

Dodger: you must have been using those 'fake cynical' pills from the dodgy pharmacy that you get your regular supplies from! Remember, use only real 'Cyn-agra'.
Actually, as SD pointed out, I PM'ed him the details after he PM'ed me to say that he would go and check the hotel.
I did it that way because I didn't want everybody turning-up at the gh all weekend and asking the same questions. Now you know where it is, please feel free to go see yourself. I know that its a bit of a 'building site' at the moment, I just hope that its ready/finished by February.

Which is just what I want! Stayed here on my last two trips, and the ever-present noise of Soi Bangla and the surrounding area would be unbearable to me. In fact, two BGs commented that it was nice and quiet, and asked to stay the night, so STs became LTs, and at no extra cost.
The little lane/soi that runs past the gh can get a bit noisy in the morning with vehicles coming/going to the developments at the top of the hill behind the Novotel, but I can live with that. If I wanted complete solitude I'd go climb a mountain.
As I mentioned above, the 20 minute walk down to Soi Bangla builds up a nice thirst. If I wanted to get there faster, there are always taxis/tuk-tuks outside the entrance to the Novotel. They're still there at 3am and 4am in the morning, so when you finish on your 'workbench' your BG can get back home easily.
