Want to buy.. Anyone seen ??

Looking for a couple of things.

My vista PC is having hassle with the mic.. Simply wont work and think its a driver issue thats not gonna be fixed. Only thing I use the mic for is skype / viop so was looking for one of those USB type skype phones or headsets ?? Or a USB soundcard / volume dial that goes on the desk ?? Need this soon (1 week) or I will just throw in a fully working soundcard.

Next, as I think I have finally got spinners budgies palmed off (I hate birds in cages) I have said she can have some fish.. Trying to avoid the standard thai square nasty glass tank look. Anyone seen acrylic / nice tanks ?? An upright standing pillar type one would be ideal.. Not looking to spend 10's of k on this tho, its another spinner 7 day wonder.

Any leads or ideas would be great.

Mask and snorkel set 600 baht, walk to the beach free. Mention the latter to Spinner I think this idea will fade.

Saw them some months back I think (downstairs at lift entrance ?).. most in the very expensive category (like 20 - 40k) and still mostly rectangular glass boxes but on nicer frames.

On the way to Central after you've turned right from Phrabarame road at the Caltex gas station in Kathu there is a fish shop. Normally not open very often so never been into it yet.

A further 1 minute driving towards central you get to a busier area (not sure the name) about 1/2 km past bungy turn off and about 200 metres before Phuket Country Club turn off. On the left is a small thai owned fish shop that has plenty of tanks, fish, plants etc.

Dad just got a 196 liter tank last week. They delivered it, tank, sand, filter, light, tank stand. 4,000 baht.

Plants work out to be around 25 baht each and then depends on the fish, how much. Saw a small sting ray you can get for 3,000 baht.

It's turned out to be a very nice aquarium. That's for the large size so something smaller should be in the same price range if not a little less.

He doesn't need it now as i dropped off a very nice aquarium, with fish and plants and a years supply of food, all for free.

Shame him and Bee were out at the time visiting the shops you mentioned, but his brother said he would be well impressed!!!

Hope he didn't spend thousands of bahts ordering one in Kathu, oh well he will just have to make room for two I suppose.

No need to thank me Lil, anything for a friend!!

Just come home to find a fine spe***en of guppy kind in a jam jar sized home plus a air pump designed for a big tank.. like he was swimming in a jacuzzi !!

I am assuming if your on about stingrays and the like you mean a saltwater tank ?? Bit too complex for Bee methinks.. Trying to find a smallish but nice looking setup..

Theres a guy in the gazette selling a 60 inch tank.. thats a big old thing..

I believe BillPay uses a Logitech phone for his Skype calls. Seems like a pretty good setup.

Hi......as you have mentioned that its a driver issue, then even if you get a USB headset or phone it won't work as it will require the sound card to be working properly to use it. So you need to get the sound card working in order to use any USB headset or phone. Try looking for the driver on the manufacturer's website for vista and re-install the drivers, until and unless its a hardware fault, re-installing the correct drivers should solve the issue.

Dont think your right there... Usually the USB devices are a secondary USB soundcard. You dont reconfigure my current soundcard to output to USB speakers (how would it work that out ??).. I have had USB soundcard in the past and thats how it works (2 installed sound devices).

Added benefit is you can set the application to use one device and the system to use another, so you still have speakers as per normal but the application only uses the second USB sound device.

As to the driver issue, I am using a MB that it seems is XP certified but not Vista certified. The WHQL picked up driver from install / MS download is the same result as the driver I download from the leadtek site (only a revision or two later) and looking online there seems to be many many complaints of vista users with no mic input on a selection of MB onboard sound users.

Not 2 different devices Lil, 2 different drivers for 2 different functions on your Sound card. Im afraid it wont work unless you get your sound card to work. Perhaps i can help you, what is the model of your mainboard?

Well I used a USB soundcard before and it was 100% like that.. Assumed any USB sound device would work that way.. How does it work on a machine without a soundcard then ?? How can they guarantee compatibility between the 1000's of soundcards on the market ??

Mainboard ASRock PV4M890 (might be P4VM ???) with leadtek AC97 onboard.

Looks like I need to buy the cheapest soundcard that has good vista drivers in that case !!! Shame as I already have an M-Audio studio card sitting idle without vista drivers !!

Just opening a whole bunch of google links on 'usb audio device' 'usb headset' 'second usb device' etc..

They all describe the config as I am thinking.. The USB headset is a second USB sound device, essentially a second sound card and that I just select skype only to use that second audio device.

One small step for gupster.. One giant leap for guppy kind.. (queue "Movin on up" etc).. Hes gone from a murky jam jar to a slick pad with lighting, cell mates, etc.

Spinner is one happy bunny !! I have brownie points up the yin yang.. Reckon I could skip off to patts on this 1500 baht investment

Tried Kathu.. No way in hell I could find the first place even 2 or 3 drive bys.. Second one in main town was good enough, priced a mini setup there, got tempted to go full on and do a nice big setup, managed to put the wallet back and escape before I impulse bought something really daft.

Had found this place online and went and had a look.. Mini setup with 2 freshwater shrimp loads of fish, pumps, filter, sand, plants, etc etc currently bubbling away. When I have a house I feel I am staying in I am thinking I will get a big tank and go at it..

Why do you wanna run Vista on a system like that? It gotta be real damn slow isnt it? Even the memory is bare minimum if you have 2 gig of it, which is maximum for your MB.

Install WinXP or upgrade the computer, thats what i would do.

Either way, your chipsets does not support Vista, its simply too damn old

Sorry.

Actually vista runs ok on this.. 2GB ram.. 7300LE 256 vid card. Pulls in a 3.5 min score on the index IIRC.. Boots in a normal amount of time (and vista hibernates instead of boots better). Dont play games or crunch video files.. Web browsing and music playing seems overkill to junk it and much prefer vista over XP personally.

Even wondered about a readyboost stick but my 2GB thumbdrive isnt readyboost speed (despite saying online it is) and dont know how much difference that would make anyway.

The only thing it doesnt do that I would like it play hidef files but as yesterdays dashboard update lets the xbox now play divx/xvid hidef files even that last job is now done.

There is a vista driver for the realtek 650 onboard chip.. Just seems to have mic issues for me. Hence I want a USB soundcard / skype phone !!

So back to 'if anyone sees one on Phuket let me know'..
