Visa stamp KL and back in 6 hours

For anyone who needs a stamp; wants to get it over quickly and like me avoid that awful run to Ranong, AirAsia have added some late flights to the schedule this month so now you can do a roundtrip HKT-KUL-HKT with them same day>>>

Outbound
AK 873 HKT KUL 13:30 15:45
AK 877 HKT KUL 16:05 18:20

Inbound
AK 878 KUL HKT 21:40 21:55

Got someone telling me he thinks if you do a visa run by AIR that you can't come back in same day and have to stay out overnight. Surely not?

Sounds like someone is telling porkies. Can't see the reasoning behind that.

Not true. Why would air be different than road?

We used to have cheap flights to Penang from Phuket and many people did just that, flied to Penang and then back in couple of hours.

I prefer to stay over night myself thought, so most of the time I stay in KL for one or two nights.

Think there's a law stating that you need be out the country for a certain period of time (either overnight or 24 hours) when doing visa runs, but it has never been enforced. Nothing new really.

Never heard of it.. And have done a few same day visa runs, once on a Silk air I was in Sing for a total of 40 mins (actually was tight to clear customs and check in again).. Was the same flight crew coming back as going out, got some funny looks on that one !!

Ok I may be wrong here, but there were some discussions on Thai Visa a few years ago and I seem to remember that at least a few of the more seasoned members on there made this claim. Have not been able locate the thread(s) I had in mind, but here’s a sample from a thread called News on visa detentions:

Quote:
I always use the same border for my visa run, and I am well know by the immigration oficers from both countries (not many with my nationalities pass there I guess), the only advice/warning I get recently was : next time , it could be be better to realy leave during 24 h/48 hours mean spend one evening + a night + a morning outside the kingdom. He remenber the law say : the foreigner must leave the kingdom and are able to re enter after one day.

Not claiming it to be correct though.

Anyway, still kind of academic as the law (if there is one) is not enforced. I just offered it as a possible explanation to LOS’s question.

Yes, did a few of those the last time we had “same day” flights to / from KL. Very convenient. Just have to remember to actually make the flights, since a first class ticket is not cheap… Or… erm… so I’m told.

Did a same-day visa run to KL last year when Thai Air Asia was running a promo that made it cost less to fly there roundtrip than to take the minibus to Ranong. Well, it would have cost less but I spent most of my transit time eating fast food...
