Mr T For FWD ???
Here's a direct question. I think Thaksin returns to power within 6 months. Do you agree ???

I hope not, it will be bad for the stability. He is a good leader thought despite being VERY corrupt and self gaining. But then I think most politicians in Thailand are corrupt.
They enter politics to make more money. Why would they pay for votes otherwise costing a lot more than their official income.

There seems to be a bit of a stalemate with the whole Thaksin/Coup/Thaksin again situation.
Let`s just hope the military don`t get involved again, although it was a bloodless coup last time, mainly because tourism is LOS biggest export and they don`t want to scare us farang away, you never know what will happen when the tanks start rolling on the streets....

I read somewhere, that he had 2 billion dollars in assets, frozen after the coup.
That's alot of reasons to return.

I'd say his return to power is a pretty safe bet. 6 months sounds about right too, dion't want to let too much of the pie go to samak before getting in place.
Expect Samak to be sacrificed, Thaksin didn't want him in place before.
Thaksin is corrupt, but only as corrupt as those before him. He engineered solutions for him to make legitimate money, bad but better than pure thieving (not to say we wasn't good at that as well)
I've always been of the opinion that he is the best man for the job, you aso have to understand that a lot of rural Thais admire the corruption and just wish it could be them. the moral outrage that we feel just doesn't come into it.

The election showed that the uneducated Thais want him back....in Bangkok and all over south-thailand where the people understand a little bit more of whats going on, they dont want him back ever.
Loads of people up north (read Issan) dont follow-or understand the news and are woting for they guy that give them most money. That the money was stolen from them in the first place is way over their heads.
Then they get what they deserve and wount come any futher in their way of living...

I think that would ring true the world over. Given a direct choice between parties, 99% of the time people would choose whoever makes them wealthier. Granted, that may be by intelligent fiscal policies, but also by pure handouts.
Are there ever any elections anywhere in the world that are decided purely by party policies? I doubt it. Most of it is by corruption, social class or historical reasons.

To answer the OP's original question - No, I can't see him coming back into power personally.
He's been banned from politics, and yes I know that all rules and decisions can be backtracked on, but I think the people with the most to lose from him coming back would engineer enough trouble to destabilise the country further, and then I think we'd be back to square one again, unfortunately.

Maybe my point wasnt clear enough in English. What I ment was that the poor farmers belive they get a better life with Thaksin. A few of the things that Thaksin was helping out with are now gone as the military regime are not supposed to use any more of Thailands income than they have to. The money are saved for the new government (that hopefully are woted inn in a right way) to invest for the future......
At least thats what Ive heard from a local politic active guy here........(never know tho)

Find it hard to believe taksin will get back in, but would like him there as he is far better for the economy and crime rates were much lower when he was around. He is more into bringing the standards of the way the country is run up to western standards. I believe the reason he is out of favour with many influentual thais is that he is making it hard to make a dishonest dollar and because of this they have been running a smear campaign against him.
