Nanai Post Office beware

It looks like a small branch of the 2 main Post Offices in Patong...but it's actually a franchise.

I went in a few weeks ago with a parcel and having sent similar ones before from the other places knew roughly what the price should be...got charged about 100baht more but didn't query it.

Today went in with one that I know should be around 250baht because I sent the exact same thing to the same country a week ago at the beach road office.

She writes 350..the weight on it...then 255 in the top right corner where the stamp goes. I thought that sounded right, asked her how much...she fiddled about with her computer, then said 310baht!

I queried it, she said 310 again...I told her that was too much and picked the parcel up and walked out.

Went to beach road office and it was 248baht.

So if you have a lot to send head for the beach road office...there's rarely a queue there. At Nanai they're adding something like a 25% "service" charge to everything.

Send a message via ICQ to Nicke
I guess the one at BigC is a similar setup, just a middle hand to post and DHL etc and add a charge.

I mostly use the post office at Rat-u-thit, as I have my box there.

Have to defend Canada Post here! Regardless if it's proper Post Office or a Retail agent the consumer pays the same postal rates.

Official Post office - 20 people in line
Nanai Post office - maybe 1

I'll pay the 60 Baht premium!

(And, with Nanai, I don't get caught in the 1 way 'Patong 500' loop, that takes me forever to get back home. )

Funny how it's the complete opposite for the ladies:-

Smokin' hot GoGo girl 3000baht - 6 adonises with bulging wallets in line

Cute BG 1000baht - maybe 1

I'll take the 1000baht one.

The official post office on Beach Road is normally fairly quick.
