Shops for baby gear?
Hi guys, since many of you have probably dealt with baby stuff in the past, can anyone give me pointers as to where to go for baby gear (car seats, cots, pushchairs, all that)? The best selection I've seen is at Central dept store but even that is rather limited. I'm just wondering if there is an actual specialised baby shop somewhere? Phuket town?

Bought most of our stuff from Central, got selection of stuff in Junceylon, in Carrefour and Robinsons, selection of specialist shops around the island, almost every village has one but not really better than Central, especially for quality. Can't help with Phuket Town as went to some but didn't buy and no idea where they were!!!

I've just been to Jungceylon on Monday and yes there was some stuff but Central was better. Is this really all there is or are people just too lazy to say anything?
Thanks Dodger...

Not too lazy just that Dodger pretty much said it all. Central seems to be the number 1 place with Junceylon second. Like Dodge I very rarely shop in Phuket Town so have no idea what is available there.

I used to make all my own 'Action Man' clothes, I could probably turn my hand to a bit of knitting for the right price!
Just scarfs though.............Don't do socks!

Ocean bangla second floor has some stuff, think I bought the car seat there or if it was in Robinson (Phuket Town).
I have bought a lot of clothes from Robinson (Jungceylon) lately. But clothing can be found in every shopping center. BigC o Lotus also not so bad for basic things. The quality of baby strollers is not so good here, plastic wheels etc. Havent seen any real good ones.

I've actually got some of those in stock Soupy old chap. Up to a 56" waist as well. Let me know which flowery motif your 'friend' prefers and I'll get them in the mail tonight.
Don't forget to tell your 'mate' to post positive feedback and post a few piccies!

Cheers Denver but I actually know how to knit meself - only I cannot knit a pushchair or a cot Mind you there was this old English children's cartoon where an old lady used to knit all sort of things (like dinner) but hm...
Thanks Soupdragon, I was just surprised not to get more answers since I know a few of y'all do have kids. And I couldn't believe I really am limited to the Central selection! Oh well a few months left to research this I guess...

Ta for the info Nicke, I just keep having visions of all the baby shops back home and thinking "come on, they have babies here too, there must be something similar"... Ah well. I guess I'll have a look around.

Having kids and shopping for kids stuff two very different things I get told where to drop the missus off and what time to pick her up when she has finished. That's how it's done isn't it ??? 5555

Very easy, just get rid of the mammaries and grow your own willy. Can take some time though, Denvers is only just showing through

Hi Perky,
No ones holding out on you It is jsut real patchy out there for any baby stuff. Our nanny turns her nose up at using 1. Baby Car Seat 2. Stroller/Pram 3. Cot 4. ....etc . Lifestyle differecnes i 'spose ...
Central was the best for us - bloody expensive - and then Lotus - and like the other posts - those wonderful clearly signed speciality stores in Phuket Town - you know the ones - the ones with the big sign board out the front "Baby Gear Here"
G'luck.

Ok Perky.....i have the run down.....stop looking here in phuket...what you are after is not here. however the place you need is SINGAPORE.
so if you can change your visa run to there you will be very happy with what you find (mind you as i hate shopping too i have not done the baby run there but will with this next one on the way) ..... but 8 farang friends who had new bubs here all did that. apparently they are chocked up with every thing you need, all the quality brands from back home and more stuff that you have never heard of............and all in single shops that have it all!!!!!!
I can get the specific details of each location and what it's best for and addresses and such.....but seeing what these guys have found for the same price as my push chair from here (which from day one only 3 wheels met the earth) is quite amazing. Car seats that meet standards and travel cots that don't bend out of shape, baby walkers that don't topple over and so on.

Sparkle, that sounds good... I have to do another visa run at the latest in May (with any luck no probs with going then, I can fly until May 25th according to AirAsia) so maybe I'll do Singers instead. Maybe even try to do it together with the dad to be. At least we now know what colours to go for

See what happens when ya let "the fairer sex" take the reins. Already discussing bringing back more than 10 people can carry on to a plane. By time they make enough visa runs to ship the stuff they plan to buy back the kid can go get it him/herself. Tchhhh

LIL, these little fellas have the market cornered on the good stuff - thats why we moved to Thailand - a nanny is cheaper than all the Parent Crack i had to buy to keep up with the little bugger.
Any way - they are so good at spotting anything not fitting into the carpet/ground (dust/dirt/toenail clippings/misc droppings) - they could make a good living from the floor of a few people I know - and a few I knew (in m | |
