Phuket Outbound DHL vs UPS

First an FYI. UPS has moved from Patong to northbound By-Pass road, just north of the Lotus intersection. Also DHL in Patong is in the middle set of shop houses of the Paradise complex (not along the U road).

Seems DHL is 1 day faster for the same price.

I sent something to Europe via DHL and it was routed via Singapore that night.

I sent something to Singapore via UPS. It took one day to get to Bangkok. Finally at night on day two it was working it's way out of the country back down to Singapore. The UPS website will tell you it is one day, but it isn't. (I didn't drop it off).

With DHL you can get something all the way to Europe in the time it takes UPS to get to Singapore for the same money. Your much better off using DHL for Phuket outbound. FYI the Patong cut-off is 3pm and Phuket town is 5pm (working off memory so please confirm).

Thought this could be useful to some others.

I used DHL in the past, give them a call and they have free pickup, so where the office is located is not so important. that time they only had in Phuket Town.

I used UPS only once for a document, took a week, it was cheap but not really fast. (But if important things you dont want it to get lost)

Just thought of it now, but I could use Google Earth to create a map to my house. I could then fax it over to DHL so they can find me. Getting them to the house is always the tricky part. Next time...
