Well courts are closing down and have some serious price reductions, not much left now.
Index (underneath) has a 42 inch plasma for 34k.. Thats cheap.. Saw a Bravia S series Sony for 41, the would probably have been a 40 inch.
Seem to remember seeing a 1080 model for 55k recently.. Cant remember exactly where at the mo.
I was going to buy an LCD but I have to say that UBC looks pretty awful on a LCD plasma seems to hide the nasty compression a bit better but then theres issues with heat, lower res, etc..

Powerbuy in Central.
Price depends on the model 1080p models are around twice the price but seeing as there is no HD TV here (yet) its not really worth the extra unless you have BluRay DVD player.

I've got two smaller LCD tv's, both brand new, never out of the box, one's 23" the other 20", will look up the models etc and details if interested. Bought them for a house I was going to live in, then never moved in

What size is the 29k samsung ?? LCD or plasma ??
Theres a 27k 37 inch (panasonic ?? LG ??) in Big C.. IIRC it was LCD model.
Thats also where the Bravia S 40 inch at 41k is.. Looks good with a hidef feed but LCD and the awful truevisions feed here can look fugly !! Theres a few 37 - 42 inchers in the high 30's low 40's.

Hmm.. Thats a good name brand, if that was a recent model and not a really old stock (like something with no HDMI or other glaring ommision) thats a deal.
Was that in Tesco itself or in the sony center place near Home Pro.

Its the Sony centre in the corner called Future AV, i'm pretty sure its got all the goodies, The Aquous range in LCD is quite recent...

I've got a Sony 40" 1080p LCD about 16 months ago. Got it from Power Buy. They guys were very cool with letting me test the various sets and I highly recommend them.
For current generation, I think Samsung has taken a slight edge. To my eye the pevious gen of Sony was better than current gen.
720P is ok for the smaller TVs.
If you are planning on watching a lot of broadcast TV, this is where the electronics will come into play. Read reviews on the internet as there is a huge difference in how a TV will upscale these images. Part of the reason I went for the Sony is it does an excellent job. The Samsung's in the store will always look awesome because they have a custom hi-def feed running to the TV's. Most other brands are running off an upscaled DVD. All of that is dramatically better than the sh!t picture they broadcast here.

Thats the real problem..
I want another screen (its an addiction I tells ya) to be the daytime TV (I have a CNBC and Bloomberg TV on my desk) but for movie use and evening TV I will use the projection setup.
So its main purpose is UBC and its not going to be the most critical viewing around (thai soaps !! and 'boing' game shows) so in that case 1) needs to look good on UBC without complex electronics, 2) its going to be at the cheaper end of the ranges and 3) I would rather a 42 or more over a 37 I think.

HD means many things depending on what marketing lies are currently the norm.
Hidef itself is a mixture of many many different inputs, 720p 1080i 1080p then these same resolutions at 60hz, 50hz, 24hz, etc etc etc.. Hidef can also simply mean that the TV will take these signal but downres it to display on a low def panel, common screen resolutions for LCD in these price ranges are 1365x768 and its not uncommon to see plasma in 1024x768 (non square pixels) a year or so ago you had plasmas in basic 480p low res panels. Currently the push is to market 'true HD' or Full HD or simply 1080HD, this means tyhe panel can display all the distinct information in a 1920x1080p signal, not that your going to find one of those signals easily on Phuket, think bluray highdef DVD a media PC or a gaming setup perhaps.
Beware that plasma can suffer 'burn in' that is if you leave an image on the screen for a long time it burns that image or a faint ghost of it in that spot, not so good for static point of sale type stuff. Plasmas are also much heavier and output more heat, tho theres a argument they put out a better (but usually lower resolution for the same money) image than LCD.
Most flat screens these days have a PC input.. Most flat screens will accept either a PC, or other hidef signal and display it well enough.. If you just want some flashy graphics behind a DJ or something then I would say get the largest LCD you can or if its for night time venue use get a projector..

Yeah they do put out heat, OK if your using AC already but I have a media PC, sometimes an xbox, amps etc.. They all put out some heat.. Means rooms can get pretty hot.
