ADSL upgrade

Jasmine called earlier today and spoke to Ead and offered to upgrade my speed for free, with the same monthly fee.

So I assume I have 2 mbit soon!

Sounds great. (Well, last time Ead thought it was free it wasnt but still a good discount)

Just used SpeedTest to check current situation, 879Kb download but only 103Kb upload. Used to be 400+ for upload.

Whats the current speed for you?

Try an international Trent.. Thats where most Thai ISP's fall down badly.. They have 50:1 contention on international bandwidth which kills any test to London or Stateside.

Atleast he got a decent upload speed anyway, I will try on my desktop instead of my wireless notebook and see if it makes any difference. 100kb upload is BAD.

Will test again when my upgrade is done too.

Strange thing is I only signed up for the 1Mbit package.. Yet pulling about 1.5 international !!

All of my Thai ISP's have been ok at Thai speed tests (except the dark days of IPStar) but its the contention on international that killed me.

I forgot to post that Nicke. We got a letter and a call as well. It is a free upgrade. Really they are just trying to keep customers. I've had a 2mbit for the same price from CAT for a year now. Plus with the other options coming, they need to offer more.

FYI, I get 500 up. You should try reseting your modem. If that doesn't help, check your line signal.

Here are my TTT/Ji-Net stats (done during the rain).

What about reliability? That seemed to be an issue for you in both Patong and Lala-land.

Ji-Net has been excellent with reliability and service. I'd say they are nearly on par with a western company in that regard. They only time they suck (like the last few days) is during an upgrade. FYI Nicke, that could be part of your problem now.

CAT isn't far behind.

Off topic since I'm in Europe but this is the first time I get a higher upload than download. Good test site by the way.

I havent had a big problem in either lala (tiny outage once ??) or my last line in Patong.. It was the years before that when I had really bad lines.. And no ISP can defeat really bad hardware lines.

So far my new line hasnt hiccuped in any rain.. Less than a month history to go on mind.

upgraded but slower

Seems the actual connection speed has been upgraded. However the actual speed is slower. Painfully slow. But my CAT ADSL has also been painfully slow for the past day. So I 'm wondering if there is an issue with the one line down to Phuket or if there is an issue up in BKK.

Anyone else running slower than normal?

There was a thread on ThaiVisa about this.. Some backbone outage yesterday..

My cheap line was still trucking in 1.5 - 2Mbit to London and LA tho..

Thanks for the headsup. Seems you have some sort of miracle connection there.

Good thread. Others seem to found what I experienced. Including DTAC Edge (my 3rd level backup connection) still zipping along like normal. I wonder how they route that traffic.

My Ji-Net has gotten better even in the last hour. I guess the boys are getting into work now and dealing with the problem through some reroutes. CAT is still crawling.

Last time it was like this was when the Taiwan earthquake cut some lines over a year ago.

Cool

I currently have the quickest option available in Singapore...

Quite impressive at first glance, but that is on a Singapore server.

When I test on a London server I get...

Now having 2 x 2 megabit connections...super sweet!!!!! So at 4 megabits I'm at about half of a modern country. Cool.

I was at TT&T office recently, saw they offer 3mb now with Maxnet.

Will also be interesting to see how the new fiber connection pans out, they start in July.

I hope fiber is still coming. The Wi-Max seems to stalled a little but the 3G stuff is coming online soon and looks promising. Saw something about in aussie doing 40+ megabits over 3G! I hope they look at both as just a bandwidth pipe and don't do some stupid fee/gb of data.

this upgrade is sweet! downloading some software from the companies web site at 199/kb just as a regular firefox file download (no multi-thread download manager). Voip has been great. It's almost like real internet!
