Smile Babylon Beach Club

Was there last night with the BBAP and can really recommend it for the ambiance, location (smack on Bang Tao Beach) wonderful sunsets and the food and wine. It is owned by Lisa McWilliams who is a lovely charming Irish lady.

If it is a plug, more details would be great. Type of music, food, ect.

Is there a web site?

Welcome to the board G

Worry not Pabs (he's not the owner - shes an Irish lass) - hes a long time expat mate (& Hasher) and its an experimental 1st post. I was with AyamG at Babylon Beach Club last night - never even knew the place existed - have some pics that will post in due course (no cable for my phone now).

BBC is hard to find - from Cherng Talay so down Cherng Talay - Soi 14 just before the police station (LHS of road heading towards Heroines) - down the narrow street to the beach. Deffo a top find for a romantic sundowner dinner or drinks.

Chris - very mellow chill out music, thai fusion food - not too pricey (150 B starters, 350 B mains, beer 100 B, nice wine selection Hardey's Chardonnay 600 B for example) - atmosphere very relaxed and stunning views over unspoilt Bang Tao Bay.

A buddy of mine raved about this place.. I went up and stopped (the white decked out place on Bang Tao Beach ??)..

Expensive for what it is (a basic open air beach place).. We had just regular Thai fare at 2 or 3x the normal price.. an absolutely undrinkable mojito.. truly disgusting.. Service took ages for drinks and food and all arrived thai style at different times while the staff sat around doing bugger al at the other end.

I came away baffled why it was mentioned to me.. Decor seemed just white painted wood chairs and tables, nothing worth of mention to me, then again we didnt have western mains which read like they may have been interesting. The menus were posh / nice mind and I seem to remember my bro had a mango smoothie that he liked.

Unlucky lunchtime visit ?? Never went back after that first impression.

Now theres a little spot on Surin beach.. Superb food and mojitos.

Is this a quiz? Are we supposed to try and guess what BBAP means? McWilliams sounds Scots/Welsh to me!

I think your post entitles Nicke to a free night out there.

Aaaaah ok. There's no way I would have guessed that. It's just the way you wrote it was like it was something everyone would know.

re mango smoothie : I'm a devotee and the best IMO is at No.42 restaurant in that block on the beachside of the road next to Lomu Park....and only 40baht.

Disappointed

I have been three times. Twice the quality of service left much to be desired. Even my Thai girlfriend, who is very tolerant, was highly critical. It is expensive for what it is. I will definitely not be returning.

Kev, thanks for the extra info.

Seft, sounds like Beach Club but that is at Surin. Maybe they are both all white. Before the Beach Club had a great BBQ on fridays, but it slide down just like their Sunday brunch to the point where it isn't value at all.

Shame there aren't more cool beach places.

Next week I was thinking of doing another run at Villa Elizabeth (???). It is south end kata beach up high and looking north along the beach. Last time was good food and a better view than Mom Tri's. Plus you got the funky reggae bar down below and the oldest and biggest tree I've seen in Thailand to the side. If interested I'll try and figure out the GPS coordinates for google maps because that is the only way you'd find it.

Yeah google earth KMZ or Google map it..

I am 90% sure I went to the babylon place.. Just unimpressed... Overpriced and awful drinks, if they sell couple hundred baht cocktails they should know how to make it at least drinkable.

Racking my brain for the name of the newish Surin place.

Had a Hash OnOn there just after it opened (~ 4/5 months ago) - did a good job catering for 40 and enjoyed it - not made it over the double hills since but well worth trying.

Seft - maybe an off lunchtime (BBC) or I was lucky last night? Nice to find some new places and the place Chris is talking about sounds like worth a visit.

Well now that it seems the season is changing Bang Tao is not a good beach for the low season. Surin is better as it faces a different direction.

Google Maps

So you see the end of the beach, where it hits the tree line.

There is that extra bit of tree that juts out and to the right of that there is kinda a U shape in the trees. The house behind the U is the restaurant.

So below and a little to the left you can see a small soi that goes to the road. It is actually a bit of a hill and only wide enough for one car at a time. It is a little tricky to find.

Oh, they have a website now.
villa elisabeth - Kata Beach Phuket Thailand

Click on "Restaurant & Bar". Personally I find their map really confusing.

Nail on the head here. A-Team service folks arrive for the dinner set... B-Team trainees in the afternoon. Just an educated guess, but it seems the norm

I am pretty tolerant of bad staff, especially in thai priced type joints, you kid of know what your in for. But I get rapidly less tolerant when a place is charging me over 200 baht for a drink.

If somewhere is going to charge me over 6 bucks a drink, I want the service to at least know how to make that drink. I dont support 3rd world service levels with 1st world prices.

It wasnt just the drink either, there was nothing about the place that made it stand out from any other basic beach place except double the price. I actually assumed at the time it was just the 'Laguna effect'..
