There is an Italian guy making pizzas on Nanai, between Nanai 1 and 2, just down from Offshore Bar and just across from the 7/11.
Think the place is called La Michele or something. Just had a single pizza there, it did the job.

Great food and a good night- the Thai takeaway later had a full belly to bounce up and down on

Also for the thin crust crisp style fans, the italian on beach road (just north of Rock City) does them how I like, not too much on them, simple and really crisp..[/QUOTE]

Rock City has gone from beach road.

OK the wreckage of rock city..

Wasnt the plan to redevelop RC1 and keep 2 (which sounds ike suicide by dilution to me) ?? I also see the rock city restaurant billboard (food that rocks !!) on the Kathu hill..

Theres this Italian run guesthouse right by Ferb Guesthouse off of Nanai. Can't remember the name of the place but they had really good seafood and basil pizza there. One of the more tastier pizzas I've had which is pretty impressive since I live in NYC and there are a ton of good pizza joints here.

NYC has the best pizzas! I miss going there to Vincent's Clam Bar for the calamari! The best ever, corner of Mott and Hester in Chinatown/Little Italy.
    I'll try this

Mulberry St., which runs parallel to Mott St. (one block down) is the Little Italy side while Mott St. is the Chinatown side. Vincent's is on the corner of Mott, so on the cusp so to speak. But a great place, and has great calamari! Never been to Little Italy in the Bronx so I can't say. Nothing in the Bronx seems attractive outside of (the old) Yankee Stadium! But it's been a long time since my trips to NYC, so I admit I'm out of touch. Anyhow, thinking about it brings back old memories... thx!

That place is a dump. The Bronx by Yankee stadium is NYC's infected butthole. You can't pay me to watch a game there. Not that I would, I hate the Yanks.

Still there and still great. There's still some really good Italian joints left but they're spread out over a few streets. Vicents is a NYC institution. I don't think they'll ever leave. That place still gets great business. The outdoor tables are always packed during the summers and thats odd because Chinatown/Little Itally steets are the vilest smelling streets outside Southeast Asia.

Gotta try Grimaldis Pizza in Brooklyn for coal-fired oven goodness.

Actually I like Chicago-style pizza too. For that one I prefer Lou Malnati's.

I do like grandma style pizza (plum tomatoes, cheese, and fresh basil). I think LOS does them especially well because LOS has very good sweet basil.

This thread had me worked up. I got grandma pizza at some the back of a truck (seriously!) in Midtown Manhattan for lunch today.

Probably. I would attribute it to the freshness of the produce. Fresh tomatoes steeped in thai sweet basil is tops imho.

BTW does anyone hear know a really good place for an English brekkie around Nanai?

Thats just how i like it..

Remember with Italian friends in Rimani.. Just a super crisp base, with a superb tomato + herb sauce and a bit of cheese.. So simple but utterly delicious.. More snackable than a full meal but simple if well done can be just great.

Everyone has a fave but a truly huge proper 'full english' is done at the offshore.. They go to great lengths for the best back bacon, best breakfast sausages, good bread for toast, bottomless coffee. etc etc etc and its a pile a racehorse couldnt jump over. A brave man tries the gutbuster !! Plus they custom them to customer preferences once they know what you like (extra black pudding.. Ohh go on then)..

Second best used to be Tavern on the hill.. No idea the status of that since the guys passing.

Shielas on Sansabai is a worthy mention but the two above were a definite cut above.

Last one on the list would be the BBQ Huts 'hungry man' breaker.. Its not really a full english, has a slab of fried ham, odd breakfast sausage etc but is a well done plate.. Only reservation is this year (low season) they were really hit and miss on both prep and customer service. Stuff like bringing out a plate with some missing, then denying it is included then when I show them on the menu it should have xxx claiming 'no hab' after its been ordered and cooked !! Kind of thing that can happen anywhere in Thailand but had a few in a row there this year.

Might have to try this place at least once. I unlike most Americans dig black pudding.
