Congratulation.
Then you have to learn Thai too. The staff at Swedish Embassy in Bangkok speak very good Thai.

Congratulations, SuRFeRGiRL. I think a very smart investment for your future!
And so cheap!! You are lucky to get a house for so little. Where I live, which is called Marin County, the average price for a house is $825,000 US. For $150,000 you could not buy a little piece of land to build a house on! Some day when your house is worth very, very much, then you will be even more glad!!
P.S. I am also glad to hear that you did not "buy the farm!"

i live in NYC, and ive been putting off buying a house, a 2 bedroon apartment costs anywhere from 325,000USD to 600,000USD. thats just an apartment, not a house with land. but the market keeps on going up,so i have to dive in soon

Good for you SuRFeRGiRL.
You will not regret your decision to get on the property ladder.
Where I live in the UK, The cheapest1 bed apartments start at £95,000 and are pretty poor for what you get.It may be expensive for you now but in 5yrs or less your loan repayments will most likely be less than a monthly rental. So you have done the right thing to buy early .
Do all BMs get an invite to the "housewarming" party?

In Sweden a decent house around Stockholm is now about £150,000 ($272,000). With these prices you mention, I would buy property in Thailand any day instead.
If you live in a small village or city in Sweden you can get a decent house for less. (Maybe 1/4 of the price around Stockholm region)
I am surprised people can afford those expensive houses you mention.

A guy that used to work with me bought an apartment in the middle of stockholm for 99 300 euro. He got 20 square meters with shower in the cellar...
The prices for an apartment in the city is rediculous..

i was thinking of propert myself because the mortgage would be not too much and you might be a ble to rent it a little and then when you stay in thailand you are not paying for hotels

I'll put in my two cents worth it's all relative and property is always a good long term investment when I was in London in 95 you could buy a house in an OK area for 150k - 200k pounds.
Over the last 5 years property has increased 47% in New Zealand and Ally I'm sure Dublin is the same if you are smart invest now to live in LOS in 10 years maybe.
Trouble is if you ever want to come back chances are you'll be out of the loop.

Taxes. etc.
Depending on where you live, real estate taxes can also be very very expensive. I hear in Thailand the taxes are minimal, but that's just not the case everywhere. For example, Yew York State in the USA has very high real estate taxes. You can have a modest house, say $250,000, and yet the taxes will be $8500 a year. It also like that in Texas.

Good for you
Congratulations Surfergirl. I think buying your first house is a great achievement. Just walk through the door, sit on the sofa and think "This is mine, all mine"... Well done.
In England of course I walk through the door, sit on the sofa and think "The bank owns most of this and it will take me the rest of my life to pay off the mortgage!"
Odd what you say about London, River. Here is a little Bijou appartment in London. Leasehold means that after a few years it goes back to the landlord.
Price: £ 1,850,000
Status: For sale
Tenure: Leasehold
4 Bedrooms, 2 Receptions, 3 Bathrooms
A superior four bedroom apartment situated on the fourth floor (lift) of this exceptionally well maintained mansion block just minutes away from Holland Park - (Oh yeah - How many minutes exactly I wonder!).
Give me LOS anytime!!
Mac

I wish I could but it will take me a lifetime to save up that kind of money, My brother just bought a house and it cost him 220,000euro's and I dont know how much but he's after paying a fortune to fix the place up, And even then the area is a real kip, My mam just after getting my house valued and its worth 320,000euro's and its just a normal house(20yrs ago it was worth 22,000 ), Nothing special, But we are only about 15-20mins walk away from the city centre, I suppose its all Location,Location,Location.
