Dentist warning.

Theres a newish dentist on Nanai, almost opposite the offshore and about 10 - 20m north.. Was recommended to me.

Short story.. Lieing bastrad.. Once he saw me come in with her told me that Bee needed 9 fillings.. and was going to basically drill her teeth to refill them !!

Long story.. I knew bee had a tooth that needed filling for ages.. And like a child / normal Thai girl, she wont do anything herself it needs me to do it.. So as we were going to UK I had a look and it was fairly gone needing attention, sent her into the usual place I use (Chinese woman on Sai Nam Yen) last week and the 20 second quote was she needed it pulled or to go for the 35 - 40k option of bone screws etc.

As I didnt know if they were suggesting the extraction to be 'thai cheap' or something I wanted a second opinion.. Went to the one above because reports in the offshore was pain free and good guy. He clocked me, had bee in the chair, proceeded to say needed 9 fillings and the extraction !!

Of course your first feeling is 'if it needs to be done its gotta be done' but having been here too long and trusting no one I wanted him to show me.. Agreed a couple might have needed work but he then was poking at the normal whorls and lumps of molar teeth saying thats a cavity.. this is a cavity.. Hold on there, slow down, whats a cavity.. Oh yes thats cavity (it wasnt it was just her normal teeth).. so beat a retreat out of there not sure what to think and with Bee thinking I was being a cheap cnut..

So back to chinese woman today, fearful she was going to say she needed loads of work done.. Clean and polish.. And yes she needs one tooth pulled and 3 more filled with one of those being only just a little bit, just starting.. the rest was complete fiction.

When you go to a medical practitioner you have to trust them, sure they need to make money, and its a business, but flat out lieing, and happy to start drilling out and causing permanent damage to someones teeth, to pad an extra 10k on a bill.. Thats a lieing bastrad.

So now you all know !!

Agree with this as well as I've had some great service there myself.

Mind you the lying bastrards are not only in Thailand cos when I was working in Sing I went to a dentist and was quoted .......... wait for it ..........S$5000 for suposed root canal, fillings, caps etc, etc - all sounded like an 'ex-pat' rip-off to me so got a second opinion from another dentist, in the same building and he told me, "no root canal needed, no full caps needed" and his fee was S$1300, plus he did a first class job.

I did mention his 'oppositions quote' and he laughed and said - "yes he likes ex-pats" - always good to get a second opinion eh (also the company I worked for over there gave me S$900 back as well).

Hmm....interesting.

I`ve used that dentist about 3 or 4 times, and it`s always been a lady dentist who has done the work.

I`ve had no issues with her at all.

She also operates out of a practice at Rang Hill in Phuket Town, and i think some others have mentioned they made the trip over there to use her.

Sounds like she has taken on a new partner or sold the business or something!!

I also saw that lady. Only 2 cavities after many years of dentist absence.

Is that the dentist right next to the 7/11 at the road leading up to the place formerly known as "Wet Willys" Seft?

I went in there about 6 months ago, had a cleaning and a check up, there was no mention of anything else needed.
Then I went in there a couple of weeks ago with my GF, for a free check up for her, which they advertise with. Came out clean, no work needed.

Or is this a completely new place?

Same place.. All I can report is what happened..

He claimed 9 fillings and an extraction.. The chinese woman said probably 3 (plus the extraction) and when I said 'the other guy' etc she just rolled her eyes.. In the end (she had it done yesterday) the chinese woman only filled 2 saying one could wait and see, it wasnt truly needed after she cleaned and had a really good look. So from 9 fillings it ended up being 2.

Maybe hes not getting enough custom, maybe he saw me and just decided to chance it, maybe whatever.. Wont be getting my business tho.

That's not bad for never then. My TG has been using the orthodontist near Patong Police station, had her brace 3 years now!!! Her stupid brace has broken in about 10 different countries. England was the worst. after 5 different denists said cannot help you F.O.one sorted it (in 3 minutes for 50 quid) Doha was the best at the hospital, fixed her brace, cleaned and airflowed teeth... Free

BKK hospital did 4 fillings for me (take out Black filling stuff and put in white about 2 yrs back 1500Bt. Now I use one down the road from Icon in Rawai, new and good.

Now if she never went to the dentist when was the last time she had a smear test then..................

actually this is something i am curious about
my wife needs braces and i was thinking if there will be issues with maintenance in Canada if the braces were done in Thailand?

She would have to be registered with an Orthodontist in Canada. I would try to set that up first if I were you.

The deal in Thailand seems to be you pay around 45k for the Braces and however many teeth they take out, then you go every month for check up, tightening. This is all included in the price for however long the braces are worn for. But you have to pay extra for airflow cleaning.

Apparently it hurts when they tighten the braces up. I recommend you get Dental wax, lots of it before she gets the braces, hard to get in Thailand, but I bought $100 worth on E bay and it has lasted about 3 years.
Another thing I suggest is you make sure the dentist is availabe all the time, sometimes they just visit Phuket or where ever once a month. This is crap as to start with anyway, the elastic band on the braces breaks and the braces come unglued and and and.

If you don't have it all covered, it is going to be all your fault. Having a Thai girl with you in a foreign country who is bad tempered because she has a piece of wire digging in her cheek and no dentist will do anything is no fun believe me I know

i will probably just do it in Canada then
will cost more but seems less hassle
thanks

but if she did it in LOS, it would be in BKK

Having just had my braces taken off...i can confirm it does hurt when they tighten them up. Also had the clear braces which even though cost a little more are worth it if you are a bit older and don't want to look like a teenager.

Best off getting the in Canada as things do go wrong with them and also i imagine the orthodonsit in canada would want their own moulds/xrays.

So, where exactly is this "Chinese lady" on Sainamyen? I think I may be in need of some dental services myself.
