Hua Hin
Has anyone been to Hua Hin? I'm thinking of buying a property there. Would you recommend it or avoid it like the plague?
Cheers

Hua Hin
I spent a short break in Hua Hin at the Anantara. The town itself was mostly full of tailor shops of one kind or another and the bar scene was desultory to say the least. I think I was the only customer.
It is a small fishing port and the beach is close to the tide line so that at high tide there is nothing much there. The king has a big palace there which he lives in a lot. The police go on parade and clean the place up when his wife pops in to see him.
I am sure that many people would think it is quaint, quiet and picturesque - it is - but is also boring boring boring!!
Just my opinion though.

I love Hua Hin - regular visitor there, great for a weekend with the family, some excellent restaurants, nice hotels, the Hua Hin Hilton is a great place to relax for the evening with the wife.
The bar scene is dull, but then only you know what you want to achieve there.
If whoring is your thing, relax and live in Hua Hin and go for your whoring trips up to Bangkkok, only a couple of hours away, and then you don't get them knocking on your door. Most long time residents of Thailand that I know who still play regularly in the bars rarely do it where they live. The BKK boys go to pattaya for their fun, the Phuket boys come up to Bangkok etc.
Hua Hin also has great golf in the area.

I was surprised to hear you say that about Hua Hin. It certainly didn't sound dull in the post where you told the story of the big party you threw there when you were leaving!!

True
True Jaybee I have to say that that one night in Hua Hin was close to the best fun I have ever had! But the place itself was very quiet and there was only one Disco. It was quite picturesque though but on balance I think if I wanted to live in Thailand I would pick somewhere else. Perhaps Kamala or Karon - oh what the heck - central Patong would suit me best!!

A very nice house....
There is a Hua Hin property site out there somewhere...try searching for it. I once looked at properties there myself. There is also a Hua Hin forum, of which I am a member of, though I haven't posted there in years and cannot even remember by nickname on...certainly isn't Schmeen. I think the forum is called Hua Hin after Dark.

Hua Hin is different from Phuket in many ways so it really depends on what you are looking for. It is cheaper, quieter, cleaner and more middle age friendly BUT
it has no big supermarkets, the beaches are not as beautiful as phuket and there is no international school. A great place to chill but I would find it boring after a while. Cha-am is up & coming and property prices are cheaper but Phuket still does it for me.

I love Hua Hin
I have yet to visit Patong i am coming for the first time in november 2005 but all i can say is love Bangkok, Love Samui, LOve pattaya but there is just something special for me about Hua Hin
Its true there is no go go bars or shows ala patong, pattaya but it has its own bar life centred around an area called soi bintaban in the centre of town lots of small bars and surprisingly lots of attractive girls have to disagree with a previous posting which says only one disco i know of at least 6 discos in the town everyone knows the Hilton brewbar with its own micro brewery as it is at the end of the bar street. I have had some of the best 2 somes ever in Hua hin the girls there know the score
Also has its own mini soi yodasak (pattaya) which centres around the coconuts bar and octopussy bar which open around 3pm and specialise in short times in the rooms upstairs you also can travel to Cha Am 15 minutes away which has its own bar area including a couple of go go bars
best place to stay hotel Jed Pee Nong on Naresdami road can have room next to swim pool and only 5 minutes to the bars

Try this website: www.huahinafterdark.com/
I like the site and the guy that runs it seems cool. I have never been to Hua Hin but it is at the top of my list now, I like the look of the place.
