No the day visa runs just being a cost and no effort are over.. there are visa options (retirement / marriage / investment) or you can just do a visa run monthly..

As to what are the downsides thats too big a question.. Ask something specific and we can try to fill you in..

Question living in LOS

MOVEING TO LOS GOOD OR BAD IDEA
hello livinlos and others
I was also thinking of doing the same ive got a few pals out there
that are doing ok .they live in Bangkok and 1 lives in rayong another samui
Basically bums. I was planning on selling up in the next year or 2 I will only have about 30 grand to run with so how long do you think that would last .and where do you go for the visa runs etc
would I find it hard to get by or even find a little job ?

Hello Darbs...everyone's situation and lifestyle is different. Some can survive on that amount of money, some cannot. I am in the process of getting my ducks in a row so I can move there, but my situation is a little different. I am needing to buy a house, business, pay a dowry, pay for a wedding, get a fiance visa....and the list goes on. So obviously I would not be able to survive on that money. If I were single and moving to LOS, personally I would take a good part of that 30 grand and buy a small business that will continue to put some sort of money in my pocket to help sustain my lifestyle over there. And use the balance as a back-up when needed.

If I were "single" and didn't put the money into a business that generates some income, I would surely piss it all away in drinking and wenching in no time.....I have a big apetite......woohoo!!!

What kind of busniess?

What kind of busniess can someone from another country own that will get enough income to live in Phuket? How do you get around the Thai laws of owning most of all you have? Put me on the list to move there, I am looking to sell all and move on a moments notice.

Do a search on this board, as there have been lots of discussions about owning and buying businesses here. Also another great resource is thaivisa.com
