ADSL in Phuket
For 1.5 years ago I paid 3500 baht/month for a 128 kbit connection, 6 months later they upgraded to 256 kbit for free.
For the bar I have a 256 kbit line for 1600 baht/month.
The current line I got few days ago is 512 kbit for 2500 baht/month.
I always use TT&T, TOT may have different deals and pricing.
There are lot of different operators and most of them are more expensive than Jasmine Internet who I use. Also note all the above use sharing, e.g. 5 or 10 people can use your bandwidth. But in practical world, I have found that the lines works pretty good anyway. If you want true bandwidth and a real IP (Not behind proxy) the prices are VERY HIGH.
And the last advice, always check Phone number/ADSL availability before renting a house/apartment. In many areas of e.g. Patong there are no numbers available. Big parts of Phuket cant offer ADSL yet.

My TOT goldcyber package is 1024/256 and they were sorting the line connection today (not yet working).. Cost 1000 baht for line and ISP..
If you have TT&T lines they were offering Hinet 2Mbit lines (about 6 - 800 kbps real speed) but it seems that might have stopped..
Far cry from when I used to have satellite broadband for >15k in a month !!!

I heard today that there will be new phone numbers issued in the Chalong exchange area within the next 2 weeks, so hopefully I'll be lucky and get one.

I thought some time ago they were advertising phuket as an internet and Technology province but how can they say that when the phone lines availability and ADSL service is so bad.
Are they increasing the phone lines in Patong.
Is there a website for the TT&T or address in phuket.

Hi LivinLOS,
As I told yuu few days before TT&T offered Hi-Net before but not now, so the cheap high speed line is not available at the moment. I dont know the reasons but I think they had too much problems. One of my friends had TOT 1 mbit line one year ago but it barely worked at all.
If Phuket want to be a IT/Cyber city, they need to solve the phone/ADSL problems we have at the moment and lower the prices.

And the new lines issue.. My buddy had 2 lines on Nanai Rd exchange.. Sold them for 15k each !!!
Its odd that TT&T are offering no new cheap access.. I understood that the CAT subsidized services (True / Hinet / GoldCyber / Etc) were p[art of the gov project to get affordable ADSL into Thai homes.. I atcually thought True HAD to offer something..
My buddies system is fast for 1k baht.. I have seen 1200 kbps speed measurements but as its max 50:1 contention you never know when it can be weird.. Also I have not done any port scans but I understand that some things are blocked.. Though for 1000 baht I can live with it..

Thats easy gotten around, use a private proxy service, such as GhostSurf. Works great.

No the port blocking happens at the CAT gateway (presumably Phuket town) and on the CAT server NAT tables, prior to hitting the internet at large..
Unless the private proxy server was before the CAT point (near impossible with this CAT subsidised service) your still going to have blocked ports heading to and from the proxy..
What your suggesting would work for the Thai site blacklists.. Tho I found some ISP's are even blocking things like anonimizer.com etc

Yes your right there, if its blocked at that early stage, then your stuffed. Came across a new one the other night, "bypass proxy client" sounds interesting and I be will investigate further.
