Entertainment license
Have any of you barowners in Patong heard anything spesiffic about how much we have to pay for entertainmentlicens?
I talked to the owner of my soi and he told me he had been on the gouvernment-office and asked for license for all 5 bars in the soi together.
They replayed that they wanted 150000 bath. Everyone thought it was expencive but the owner went there to pay anyway. But when he came there they wanted 150000bath from every bar. The owner said NO, and he is now trying to find a sheeper way..............
I know some of you have payed just a few bath as a temperary selusion, but I would like to know if anyone else have heard of this crazy idea from the gouvernment. Looks that they want to set a final stop for a buisness that have suffered more than enough since the tsunami.

We haven't paid yet. But there have been talks about 30-50,000 baht for each license. (I have two, for some reason. Maybe include dancing, I am not sure.)
The only reason I can see they ask for 150,000 baht is that you are located outside the entertainment zone, and should technically not be allowed to have one. (If the zones they created 2 years ago still are valid). The reason to have zones was to prevent bars and karaokes to open in residential areas or pop up everywhere.
Two years ago the Entertainment Zone in Patong was Bangla, Sawatdirak and the beach road and Rat-u-thit between Bangla/Sawatdirak and covered 100m from the street.
The only exception for bars outside the zones are those who registered when this new scheme was introduced last year (Applied before 12 Feb 2004 If I remember right)

I will let you know in a few days. There has been a problem with my application form, something to do with my paperwork not quite right. I wasnt expecting anymore than 10,000 baht but you never know with this place.
Kathu government office came to Tiger about 5 months ago checking all the paperwork, it diddnt seem to be a big deal
I just renewed our whisky licence at the kathu government office, that was 2300 baht

When you apply for the first time the price was supposed to be 30-50,000 baht per lciense, and then about 10,000 baht/year.
I applied in Feb last year and some months later they wanted some additional/updated papers, and later on some new drawings of the bar. I got the license in the middle of December last year. Only two weeks before it expired. In January this year I renewed and later picked up the new ones at a meeting at Patong hospital.

Thanks for the replies about the license, I guess we just have to wait and see what we have to pay. Looks like they charge different from place to place.

Geir, go and sort it out yourself, dont rely on a middle man. It is easy and straight forward and the folks down there are good people.
