Rental car?

Can any of you guys who live there suggest a suitable place to rent a car/pickup for a week.
Nothing special. I will be going to Trang for a week while I'm there in November & have some gear to take with me ie. TV. M/wave etc.
I don't require anything flash, just reliable.

Mate you should be thinking more along the lines of insurance, seeing as you are leaving the island you should stick to the big ones like Budget, Avis and Hertz. All will drop off cars to you in Patong. Any of the small mum and dad local operations will offer no support/backup should you have problems off the island.

I can't speak about the other vendors but Budget had pickups for 800 baht / day when I rented my car. If you rent longer than 6 days there is no charge for returning the car at a different place from where you picked it up. I had my car for 4 days and paid 1000 baht to take it from Chiang Mai and return it in Bangkok.

Their prices include basic insurance and you can purchase additional insurance on top of this.

Check for special pricing here:

Good luck.

I ordered a Budget car via Holidaycars (Sixt in Germany). I paid 1000 baht per day incl. CDW and got a Honda City with Automatic and A/C. Nice car. Paid 5 days, got 7 days.

Hi Alibaba,

Last Feb, I have rented a car with http://www.phuketdir.com/apcarrent/index.htm

Not the newest one, but I didn't care and I think the best rates close to the airport.

More choice on http://www.phuketdir.com/location.htm

Maybe you can also try on www.houseinphuket.com .. maybe a bit more expensive but you can find a deal

Hope this helps

Rent a car

Thanks for the replies guys.
I should be able to find something suitable from your recommendations.
Steve, thanks for your advice regarding insurance & back up.
I had considered a small back street hirer but like you say, I'm going off island and if I have a problem they won't want to know.
I think I'll pay the extra and use a reliable company.
