I heard they build a new prison on the island, now i really need to know where that will be. Because i know someone who is in prison. She isn't in phuket town prison anymore... she moved to another prison....
but where i don't know for sure... my uncle tries 2 find out, but help from you will be very welcome aswell.
What the prison guards told my uncle, she move to 'rachajan' (or so) and my uncle found out it has to be somewhere around Talang...

I try to remember what the articles in Gazette said about Phuket prison but I can't remember. Gazette had several articles about this the past year.
I will try to find out more.

prison@phuketprison.th.org
That is the email address for the Prison in Phuket
As far as I'm aware the provincial Prison is still the one in Phuket Town, Thanon Thamrong, Amphur Muang 83000.
Are we talking about a Thai or a foreigner?
Age?
I know my nephew got up to no good and was sent off to serve his time in Surat Thani. Depending on the offence phuket is not the biggest prison in the area. I remember there was a temporary prison in bangjo, Thalang, but temporary for what I can't remember.
Certainly try the email address and see where it gets you.
If I find out more I'll let you know

hi
from a article in Gazette news in nov 2002
PHUKET TOWN: Manit Suthaporn, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Justice, has announced that the 100-year-old Phuket Provincial Prison will be closed, with inmates being relocated either to Bangkok or to a new jail in Thalang, on which construction has just begun.

www.phuketprison.th.org/
This is the website for Phuket Prison....if you can read Thai...but it certainly lists the address as in Phuket Town. Whether the new prison in Thalang (which I must admit I don't remember reading about, but the I'm not a regular Gazette Reader) is completed yet I'm not sure, but there was a temporary prison in Thalang a while ago. That maybe where she is.
The website seems to be up to date (ish)...it certainly annonunces the new Prisons Govenor.
Right....my wife has just translated a section of the website, and a footnote does say thet there is a temporary prison on 100 rai of land in Baan Bangjo, Amphur Thalang, why temporary I don't know, but it seems that Phuket Town is still the contactable address.
Of course building something as temporary is a good way to build poor quality...then keep it for years under that label.

PHUKET TOWN: More prisoners are likely to be freed on probation to reduce the problem of overcrowding at Phuket Provincial Prison.
The announcement was made today by visiting Justice Minister Purachai Piemsomboon.
“The prison in Phuket is very old,” he said. “The number of prisoners is increasing but the budget and the number of prison officers is not.
“Phuket [Prison] should hold about 600 prisoners but now we have more than 1,000 and the female part of the jail is even more crowded than the male.”
He added that a new prison is to be built at Thalang, a more appropriate site than Phuket Town. The old jail is to become a public park. He warned that the 100-million-baht budget for the new prison could grow with new technology needs over the four years it will take to build.

Yes, you can leave Thailand at any border for new 30 days. Don't forget you can also extend your visa with 10 (15?) days at the immigration office for 500 baht.
But tourist visa may be very easy to obtain at the Thai embassy in your home country or Thai embassy in Penang/KL. In Sweden they issue such visas in 15-30 mins.
I often go to Hat Yai and take taxi to Malaysian border and walk in/out the border for new stamps. Many people go to ranong and it cost about 1100 baht for the daytrip with comfortable minibus.
But I prefer airplane to Hat Yai and one or two nights stay there.

And what could you be getting up to in Hat Yai that makes it so appealing???
The worst thing about not having to do visa runs any more is I miss my little trips to Hat Yai. Haven't done one now since 1995.

As for Michel, some of the info I gave you is a direct translation from the Phuket Prison Services website. I suggest it just needs some further investigation. I'm hardly in Phuket between now and the end of the month, but I'll ask around again.
