Withold number

Is there such a thing in Thailand where I can enter a number then dial the person I am calling and they cannot see the number that comes up.

I will be using a mobile and calling the UK.

Cool

There will be a setting on the phone, if it's yours then you should know that but I guess you're using someone else's, so get them to check it out. Failing that go to an internet cafe and see if they have a VoIP type facility.

In GSM there is a standrad GSM code for withholding numbers.. look for GSM codes online.. Many phones have a built in number privacy feature but the Thai networks do not always tend to get it right..

Its rare I see a UK tel number come up even when I am called from the UK landlines or mobiles these days.. Telcos are all using cheap routing systems and they lose the numbers more often than not.

Not safe enough for phoning the wife while at a conference though

If you wish to either show or hide your phone number on outgoing calls then you may either set this on your phone's menu or manually enter the code before dialing. These codes will override whatever menu setting you have on a per-call basis.

Do not display: #31#[phone number]
Display: *31#[phone number]
Status: *#31#

North American GSM service providers also support the landline codes for this feature (these also work on CDMA, TDMA, and iDEN phones):
Do not display: *67[phone number]
Display: *82[phone number]

There are also codes to show or prevent incoming numbers from being shown on your handset if you subscribe to this feature. I'm not too sure why you'd want to do this, but just in case you do:

Do not display: #30#
Display: *30#
Status: *#30#

As Disbuster said, go to an internet cafe and use SkypeOut or VoipBuster. When they ask why they can't see a number you can tell the true and say that you are calling through VOIP ( they cannot see it isn't from your home). Pleasant side effect: I think it's quite cheap.

Cheers,

Raval
