Hugos, I'm not taking the P1ss, but they wouldn't be Discos without the music, they would be..........big rooms, selling beer with girls in them! (Not such a bad thing either IMHO!)

What kind of music would you prefer they played? Less general stuff and more of yer techno groove thang-thingy (See, I haven't lost it!) or do you mean it's just a bit too loud?

I'm an old fart but I still like the music they play and especially when the DJ's in the Soi's put on a track that is a favourite of the girls and they all screw their eyes up and start wailing along!! I love it!!

5555, denver.

I`m just an old drunk fart.

but i think sometimes they play all over the same music.

No rockmusic, nothing i know... in my f*cking country every discos play different music. Seems that in thailand they play in the (farang) discos everytime and everywhere the same.
But maybe i just have to observe the dancing crowd now because i don`t know what the hell they are doing.... 55555

Talking Louder

I'm not a big fan of techno/dance/whatever you call it music,

but

i do love sitting in a bar with their sound system cranked right up
and all the other bars have theirs the same
but playing different music
with all the flashing lights and stuff
its very exciting to the senses

like Animal says "louder...LOUDER!"

you bunch of old fogeys...

hehe just kiddin', the music (in Tiger especially) seems to have been the same for aaaaaages. Most times i never notice it.

On a night out in Patong you are guaranteed to hear the following;

California Dreaming (Dance version of course)
If you're going to San Francisco (Dance version of course)
One night in Bangkok (Dance version of course)

I agree all discos play the same music and they should try to be little bit different from eachother.

When I enter discos in Hat Yai it is a completely different scene compared to Phuket, more techno/dance and loud.

Sack the Soi Eric DJ!
Only joking! Its a typical holiday destination type thing - playing the same music and all.
But they could rotate the DJs a bit, now that several of the sois have gone to the one music through the soi, why don't they rotate them?
I suppose the answer is to drink at a different soi each nite!

One of the reasons that I liked it in your go-go's was that the music was at a good level, loud enough for dancing but not too loud for conversations.

If I want the music of Patong, I just light my cigarette with my Patong music playing lighter!!!! Cost: 100 Baht. Location: Little old lady in front of steps to Dragon. It's refillable, several flashing lights and plays:

"I wanna kiss, kiss, kiss when the sun don't shine wooohooo hoooo wooohooo hooooo" by The Vengaboys. Ace!

I reach for that lighter every morning to spark up the first ciggie and get my lungs warmed up for the day. The lads love it, honest!!!! They show it by showering me with gifts of boots and rifle bits!!

INCOMING!!!!!!!! I wish I'd bought two now!!!

Personally I love the discos.

I used to go to all night raves in england, you know' shorts, hats & whistle crew...E's r good E' r good ..Ebeneezer good.

I started in the mid the late eighties with Acid house and then loved the natural progression to happy hardcore through to the range of ''tunes'' you see today. I don't go clubbin in the UK anymore though as I can't be arsed with it but I like to relive me ole days with a bit of old school dance and me best Mc Hammer moves.

So I like Tiger, Tai Pan and Safari, also like the mix of tunes played through the night from hardcore dance, R&B to Hip Hop shake your money maker stuff.

I think the atmoshphere in the clubs can really lift you up to, to me it is far more of an exciting night than just sitting propped up a beer bar night after night.

I like the discos in pattaya a lot too, the marine discos have good Dj's, Excyte was something different and interesting (thai disco with live acts + DJ) and of course I love a night out to Lucifer on Walking st in between visits to Agogo's.

Lucifer in particular had a fairly good vibe, happy without idiots with attitude, always full of stunning thai totty who don't half dance sexy to all the R&B/Hiphop they play in there...reason to go there in itself

Strangely enough, i have an opinion of this. LOL. From a dance music purists standpoint, yes it sucks **** on Phuket. Tired old tunes, a lack of understanding in how to build a vibe etc.

I've been out to some venues and heard blinding hard acid techno dropped into a rock tune etc, top 40 dross heaped upon more more crap.

Half the trouble is the poor DJs play on piss poor equipment that prevents them mixing songs properly and the other half of the problem is there are so many competing tastes. You've got people up on current dance music mixed with old farts who like their rock n roll and the BGs who like their big sugar-coated Thai ballads. It's hard to please everyone, it's like playing weddings.

The local DJs can't afford to search out and buy new music and tend to rely on what farangs bring into the place. I left in March and gave a local DJ about 100 of my tunes and then 3 months later sat down at Scooby Bar to hear about 70% of the songs he played were the ones I'd left his mate. At least i like the music that night. Haha.

I haven't DJ'd much in Thailand but I'm coming back in december on a one-way ticket to try to carve out a niche for myself. If the music starts to sound better after December it may well be me. <jokes>

Just make sure your legal mate. The big problem in the nightlife scene in LOS, is that if you do start to make a place move, someone else will become very interested into WHY. Get my drift.
