A friend and I were talking about some of the funny characters that we have seen over the years in patong. Im sure many of you have seen them.

The old lady selling chewing gum.

The guy selling dancing coke bottles and some times little babies. Never seen him make a sale in my 2-3 years of visiting patong!

Other interesting characters we used to see in bangla during the daytime / afternoons alot. One farang guy we named fcuk fcuk, as he would wander down bangla swearing blindly at anyone and everything (including immobile objects such as bar stools and bench seats). I think he may have had a few bolts loose.

Another thai guy (super mao) used to be out everyday. He would be blind drunk every day and go from bar to bar in bangla hounding whiskey off the bar owners. Usually it ended up with him throwing his clothes on the roof and disappearing for a nap somewhere. The last time i saw him was pre-tsunami, we were wondering if he was still around as we never saw or heard him after the 26th ?

So, are there any other strange or funny people/characters around patong that stick out in your memory?

the is also the pie man. who goes round at night selling his pies and pasties from the polytirene boxs

Thats the one IJ, we wondered because he used to sleep down on beach road alot and we thought he might have got washed away... Yes he always gets alot of freebies, i think its the quickest way for people to get him away from their bar.

Has anyone tried a pie or pastie from that guy? I never have but ive been close a few times....i always imagine it will be cold or luke warm..

then the is Paul who is a permanent fixture at the english bar at the bottom of soi eric,
he is a walking tatoe ,i dont think the is a part of him that is not painted,
you can always see him with Danny the owner.
god knows how he survives there

As to the Thai guy who is not the full shilling..

I am told he is from a well off family.. and that he doesnt want to just be cooped up and so they kind of let him run about mad like that... care int he community huh !!

Alos that tuk tuks can bundle him home and get paid so often after hes passed out half naked somewhere he gets taken home that way..

Dont know that as **** just what I was told..

Its very true about the family part. He once threw a half full bottle of mekhong at my misses, luckily he missed. I thought she was going to kill him.

Not a human character, but if I had my own place here I think I would adopt what is probably the ugliest looking dog I've seen in Patong. Poor b*astard lies in the road at the end of Soi Sansabai by the barbecue cart every night and whenever I buy something there I always get a stickful for him.

This is Steeeeve , a dog you may see around San Sabia or Soi sunset. He is the "unofficial/adopted" mutt of Faulty Towers bar , he has been hanging around there for years. Wanders all over the place ,then pops into the bar for a while, then wanders off again. The guys make sure he gets fed, gets his shots, and have even taken him to the hairdressers to get a shampoo and brush up.

PS. second pic is him lying on his back , peddling the invisible bicycle.

Coke bottle man is still there I can report and currently working a patch in front of the sea food restaraunts on Beach Road, even at 3 in the afternoon. He's even changed his T-Shirt since that last picture!

Coke bottle doing well here on my desk, keeps the flies off my coffee!! I knew I'd find a use for it!!

Not talking to Steeeeeeeve at Faulty Towers!! He ate my ham and cheese toastie!! Faulty, can you give Steeeeeeve a kick in the butt from me when you are next over!

then buy him another Ham and Cheese from me!! 5555555555

Characters ?? Hmmm.... what about the deaf and dumb LB with the blonde hair. I have sat in a bar in Soi Crocodile on many occasions and seen "blonde Bob" strutting her stuff up and down the Soi. She does tend to scare potential customers away with her manic arm waving and gesticulations !! Below is a pic of her standing on the bar dancing

(right hand side).

If its the guy I think you mean- he never made it- he died during the Tsunami (I have a picture of him dead with the medics- buts its too large to upload)

A bar I always used to drink in

was called the Coconut Bar, halfway down Soi Crocodile. There were no LB's in that bar which has now gone and is called Don Bond's 007 Bar (I think). Sitting there, you had a great view of all the LB's prancing back and forth which sometimes was quite funny, especially the times when a guy didn't know that the gorgeous creature he was talking to, was actually a bloke

That's where I got to see the deaf and dumb LB (blondie) but the "target" of my photo above was actually the LB in the centre with her legs wrapped around the fella sitting at the bar. I had watched her for quite a few nights and was really tempted, but never quite got there, maybe in a week's time ?

Seems the guy selling the coke bottles owns 3 restaurants. That is what I heard from Thai people.
And there is that old miss Patong (probably 1950) you sometimes see in beautycontests, or just walking with a diadem on her head.
