DIVING - Phuket

Hi All, thanks to your overwhelming response to my request for inor on the BG's i have decided to try my luck further.

We will be in Phuket beginning of jan, and were thinking about doing some scuba diving. Woud anyone know of a great shop that does it cheap but well, good? i have never been diving before.

we are also going on the phi phi island day tour and the phang nga eco tour.... anyone been on these?

See BC..........ask your questions and your wish is our comand...........

Loads of Dive shops in Phuket............so depends where you are staying as to where I can recommend for you........I have used Sharkey's in Karon/Kata, Santana + Scubacat in Patong and these are all good reputable companies who will either take you on a intro course..........or... if you are more serious and can spend 3 days take you to full Open Water Certification...........2 of those 3 days will be diving so it is only one day in the school/pool

I suggest doing a google search under diving phuket and you will see just how many options you can have here.....

I will be on a 3 day liveaboard dive trip going out of Phuket to the Similans + Richelieu Rock myself in the first week of January..............these are some of the best divesites in the world........as I said earlier on a post if you like you can post the dates you are in Phuket somewhere on the board and Werwolf will add you to the official list of Board Member visitors...........and you will always definitely be warmly welcomed at the Mai Tai Bar

Lots of different companies do daytrips to the Phi Phi Islands and most of them involve a scoot around the highlights.........Maya Bay (where they filmed the Beach) Monkey Bay (where funnily they have monkeys.......don't get too close though they bite) Sea Gypsies caves etc and some snorkelling.........i think you'll have fun with this thoug you may want to go back and stay on the islands.............They are very beautiful

As for the Eco Tour of Phangna there are literally hundreds of different trips run by tens of different companies which might apply here............the ones with sea kayaks are generally good..............some of these you actually get to go inside caves and have picnics on deserted beaches etc......

And as for your comments eralier about bars etc..........you will have no problems in the bars around Patong.....most of the punters (mostly farang males) are very friendly, relaxed and up for a chat.....and the BG's know the line in these places and do not cross it....they are usuallly up for a bit of fun tho' so they might tease you/your boyfriend a little.......they have a name for fun in Thai.........sinouk

There are a couple of places with bands/disco etc for going out at night though they start late............usually around midnight and cloese early........around 2.00am or as late as the cops will let them...Taipan is one good for dancing and having fun....

As long as you keep an open mind and a live and let live attitude I'm sure you will love Phuket..................
