Thanks Google Earth - found the road...
My dad has for a few years tried to figure out the road to the very top of the mountain behind Patong to reach the building at the very top of it.
Thanks do Google Earth my dad found the path and visited the top yesterday, he told me it was excellent views of both sides of the hill but you cant reach the building. It is a "Report Station" and is guarded by armed military.

I thought it was a water pumping solution from Kathu...
Are we talking about the way via the old dirt road that goes behind the Chinese temple ??? Theres a house along there miles from anyone with a view of the bay you wouldnt believe.. Its way way over 80m build limit so cant be sold.. Great place for a guy who doesnt like neighbours.
The dirt rd back of Haasip Pee (mountian) Rd to Chalong is fun dirt tracking also...

new map
Hi Nicke - In my Google Earth - Phuket is divided in the middle North - South
so the east coast is very detailed but the west coast is blured. I just downloaded the latest update but stil the same. Patong is not detailed. Do you have a special layover?

Top of the hill
The boozing Phuket Hashers drag their beer bellies all over the mountains behind Patong. The building right at the top is the Air Control Radar Dome and is under military guard.Be careful how you approach it.The main blacktop road is sign posted from the Chofa Road.

It is easy, just drive on the road behind patong and follow the road that turns to the opposite direction to Patong, but beware, after rain season it is usually in very bad condition. Even when it is dry it is not so easy to drive on that road. If you follow it you will reach ATV dirt track and then to the main road, almost oposite Chalong temple. Its a great shortcut but the road itself can be hard to drive on.
I dont know exactly where my dad drive, but I believe it is off the road between Patong and Chalong. I have to check out myself, will ask my dad to show me, I want to reach the top myself.

Hi Nicke
The road to the top is fine the whole way up. As you said there are armed guards up there and there is a boom gate just out the front of the station so that you cant go any further. but you can see all of Patong and even down over Karon towards Kata, then on the back side over to chalong and down to rawai. The road is very steep and the 125 struggles at the very top and you are in low gear most of the way but it is a nice little run. I will find some of the photos I have taken up there and post them here.

I think the way he will have gone is to leave Patong to Kathu.. At the chinese temple on the top of the hill there is a little road behind the temple on the Kathu side.. That leads up to where you want to go I think...
Whenever I arrive in a new area I tend to go hunting around in my spare time.. The amount of people who have no knowledge of paradise beach just outside Patong is crazy esp as its one of my fave beaches on the Island with access to Patong reef for snorkeling.

I'm a Mac Guy, so no Google Earth. The other day, I finally got a cheap PC: a Compaq Presario to run an accounting program. A refurb unit for $269. Looking forward to connecting to the net for Google Earth BABY! Guess where I'm gonna zoom in on first?

Sorry LOS but we have used that road many times and it does not go to the Radar site. You do get some great views from there though. The turn in to the road to the Radar Dome is on Chofra Road near the electricty sub station.

I talked to my dad, you actually have to drive all the way to ATV dirt track (close to Wat Chalong) to be able to enter the road to the radar station, so you are pretty right.
I will make a visit there soon I guess to reach the top. If tourists knew about this place I am sure it could be the new view point in Phuket.

If you go to chalong circle from Karon/kata you turn left and head toward Wat chalong. You go past Wat chalong about 200 metres or so and on your left if you slow down cause it would be easy to miss is a road that is not much bigger than a driveway that has a sign directing you up there. You can actually come of about 3 or four small roads to get up there but that is about the easiest way to direct you to get there.
