Cheap and nice Thai/Seafood restaurants
In one thread LivinLOS and Geespot talked about cheap and nice Thai and Seafood restaurants in Kathu but he couldnt find these on Google Earth.
I have been to two places in Kathu I like, basic restaurants but the food is excellent and cheap. Atleast in one of them you can catch your fish yourself directly from the sea if you want.
Attach pics from Google earth. How do I make URLs for Google Earth?

I like this one at PaLai near Chalong, probably because it is close by the house.

There's a couple of ways to send links for Google Earth.
1. At the bottom of the screen on the right hand side is an email button to send either a link or an image, this will prompt to use Google Mail or your default mail reader to send a kmz file (1kb)
2. Add a placemark and then right-click it, select save as and give it a name. You can then send this file.
The .kmz files can be opened by anyone with GE installed. Try the one I've attached (save it without the .txt extension)

Is it me or does the Google Earth site not show the Patong area. It seems to stop just outside Patong and the detail is not clear.

Sorry to say but it is not only you, all west coast of Phuket is very bad resolution while most of Phuket is very good resolution.
So Patong and the other beaches are still bad, but for town or Kathu Google Earth is excellent, it is almost unbelieavable.

Thanks, I will try that next time I want to show locations on Google Earth.
And for all of you who dont have Google Earth yet, download it. It is a fantastic program, the best map ever of the world.

I wish I could
I bought this PC in '99 and it was the fastest one at the time.
Now its a museum piece P3 400mhz
Guess I need to upgrade sometime soon. Still this does the job apart from GoogleEarth.

Just downloaded and tried it, fantastic for phuket etc but then tried to locate my home in UK and it was really bad no focus at all let alone place names, maybe I'm being too english expecting it to be really good for uk and suprised its better for phuket? How much is it out of date? cos I looked for a piece of land I was thinking of buying and found it but the whole area already developed was showing as still jungle.

They update all the time, not long time ago I couldnt view my home city or find my parents house, it was just blurred and based on basic maps, but now I can easily see my parents house and the garage on GE. So they are improving.
I think US was first region to be of good quality and best covered.
Ead's villigage is still bad for example.

I had a look to see what the minimum spec was and mine failed miserably
Make sure your motherboard will accept a faster processor before you buy one Andy.

If your going to go to the trouble of upgrading, rip the motherboard and throw it away as well. Buy an AMD 64 processor and socket 939 motherboard, you wont regret it. I've recently brought the 3700+ processor and it flys.

Nicke, is it possible to add the .kmz extension to the list of permissable files on the forum ?? Is that an easy config tweak or is it built into the forum SW.
Just nice to add .kmz's like simply adding a .url and point direct to a place on the island.

Is this the one right on the beach? Lots of boats in the bay? If it is it gets my vote, top spot but not so easy to find

Down the zoo road, before you get to the end, turn left and then its on the right just up the road a little. There are a few restaurants there together, but this one has the red roof tiles, and a large car park in front. Great prawn cakes.

I've been racking my brain for a week or so now trying to remember the name of a place that I love in Phuket Town. The Natural it's called. The food is sensational and pretty cheap considering the quality. By far the best food I've had in LOS and that includes the Savoey.
They do these crab ball thingoes, (yes I realise it takes a lot of crab balls to make a decent feed) in curry with coconut that are the best thing i've ever eaten.
It's near the Chinese temple on the corner of the road that you come into Phuket Town from Central. I'll try to get a street name and post it up.
I highly recommend checking it out if you like your grub.
/edit/ It must be pretty well known I guess. here's a link. http://www.phuketdir.com/naturalrestaurant/#map

That looks good..
Eating in Phuket town tends to be of a higher quality for Thai food IMHO.. I reckon I may well head to that Kathu place mentioned tomorrow.. Weather, time etc permitting..

2 nights ago i was brought to the lemon-grass at thanom dibuk at phuket town. they served thai food and the deep fried cotton fish was really good. it is a patronised mainly by the locals and there were seating in the open as well as under shelter. after all these years, i would say that it one of the best that i've been.
