Good question Dave.......I've never noticed one with the exception of hotel foyers
Maybe our fellow BM + tourist friends aren't big readers on holidays........I still manage to get through 3-4 novels in a 2 weeek period.........guess I am just not trying hard enough........I'll just skip over to the Nightlife section then??

Theres quite a few second hand book sellers though of course second hand means they do tend to the mainstream type of titles with a little bit of a lack of selection..
The best one IMHO is down towards the post office in the group of buildings just before (where there used to be a 7/11 but knocked down) with the open air food places.. Its next door to TA internet in that block and he has a larger choice and also has a small amount of german / french / possibly italian etc..
Another one borders the food area opposite the soi Paradise exit but I have found the owner less willing to chuck in a book free when buying a few or that kind of friendlyness.. I guess he deals with the Bangla tourist a bit more..
Also I order a lot from Amazon.. Books are too enjoyable to penny pinch or have only a small selection of Tom Clancy thrillers..

Have to penny pinch this time round Sefton, I'm coming over with every cent i have and it ain't much believe me. When I run outta dough I have to go home and face a whole lotta pain. So I'm watching me baht closely mate. The reason I've asked about books is because I won't even have enough dough to pay for nookie. I'm gonna be reading instead of rooting. Tragic innit.
But thanks for the heads up.

Why not save up and come over later when you have some more spending money - It seems a shame to be in such a nice location and not to be able to enjoy yourself through worrying about money.
In terms of books, if you can get over to Chalong I will hapilly lend you some for the duration of your stay - Theyre just sitting in boxes at the hallway at the moment.

I left tea chests full of my books in the UK.. Brought only ones that I really enjoyed or would reread when I moved my stuff over.. Then got bloody bookworms in them and they eat the buggers..

Nice little one in the middle of the OTOP shopping area. OTOP is more or less opposite Christins.

I usually bring over a few of the "new" books when I fly out from the UK, when I've finished with them , I leave them in the bar(Faulty Towers) and anyone who wants them can "borrow" them.
This works quite well,as others do the same and books are usually returned so everyone can read them.
Normally get a few requests from mates to bring specific books , which I will gladly do.
(For a couple of beers . )

Books or text books
Do you mean English language books or novels printed in English?
In Patong there is one near the Siam Commercial Bank on Ratutit Road (opposite side of road) and also the one in the OTOP centre (is closer to the Holiday Inn.)Most do a one for one with small payment.

Didn't think of that angle hehe. I read in English but don't care what the book was originally written in. So just as along as it's printed in English.

I know what you mean Benjy but it's a long story. Basically I'd rather be in LOS right now with very little money than at home saving up for it. I just need to be away from home for a while right now. And it'd cost more to stay in Sydney.
My tastes are simple anyway, I'll drop back to a 5-star hotel, (I mean 7 stars is just for posers and rock stars when I think about it), twice daily maid service, only 3 or 4 x BGs at once, lobster thermidor and Chateau de Chaselay '59 every second day, a normal limo rather than a stretch, only one daily massage, haircuts once a week and if I keep the tipping down to around 20,000 baht a day I should be OK. The money might last me 6 months.
I'm dreaming of course mate.

The offers still there for the books, havent got too many though - so the selection might be a bit thin!
I may have a condo for rent in Rawai in a few months (once I've done it up), is it generally a place where theres a lot of expats?

Benjy,
Sorry for being slow getting back to you. Been away for a few days and I actually missed the second half of your post when I first read the replies.
Nice one mate, very kind of you. I'll take you up on that for sure. I'm actually going to be staying in Chalong at Bec & Rico's from December 13th and see how I like it. You might know them??
I actually prefer Rawai and Chalong. It keeps me away from temptation.
