I've never seen any evidence to suggest that it is. You will always get a few morons wherever you go, but LOS is nothing like Spain or Greece from my own experiences.

I don't think so. The trip is too long and expensive from Europe. Also, the odd horror story about the Bangkok Hilton makes them think that they are better off spewing on a Spanish cops boots, cos you don't wanna do that in Thailand.

On another point, I've been visiting Phuket since 1997 and have never seen a fight. I can't think of anywhere else that I can say that about.

even when the England v Argentina game was , i saw no trouble just a few fellas with England or Argentina shirts on drinking together watching the game with one eye and the world go by with the other,
for you average Chav , scutter ,asbo or scally its to far to expensive for them , long may it stay that way
i the five or six years ive been going to LOS i have only seen about three fights , all farangs two were when the Navy boys where on shore leave and that is going back a long time ago and the other was farangs drunk settling old scores.

Hey Paul ( Marc26),
Don't you know..."the only stupid question, is the one that's not asked!"
"We", American's don't have a monopoly on this for sure!
read the thread...stupid questions/statements....
"yob's"...New term for me too, "mate"!
As Stevem say's (thanks Stevem), Aussie style... it means "an uncouth person".
The American dictionaries define "uncouth", as:
1. crude
2. unrefined
3. ungraceful
4. etc......
Now, no one could ever accuse any of our BM's, of fitting this description??? Right????
(another stupid question)

yobs =
Those words are to polite for yobs
where I come from in London a yob is
a bloke/man or teenager could range from 16 to 45 in some cases !
stereo typically a football supporter
with a skin head or very short haircut covered in tattoos drinks beer all day
and probably doesn't work who also as a criminal record as long as your arm
a YOB causes mayhem at night fighting in bars then smashing up privet property or people in general
now all you Non uk BMs no what a YOB is
An ASBO = anti social behaviour order , from the police

To be honest I do think there is a slightly increasing number of (sadly UK it appeared) yobs.. Nothing like the costa del cheapo crowds but still more than a couple of years back..

I first went to Ayia Napa in 1980 when it was just 3 bars, a restaurant, a monastary and a little inlet with a few fishing boats! Same as Fig Tree Bay around Cape Kata there and it was just one bar, owned by two brothers (Two very rich Brothers now!) and feel it is a shame.
I went back in 1999 and 2002 and hardly recognised the place, I know money talks etc but what a transformation! Big party atmosphere, but everything that goes with that! Punch ups, Squaddies banned from Ay Nik and Dhekelia, people throwing up in the street and the Cypriots and the local Police just looking on bemused that these people had flown 5-6 hours to pretty much do what they do every weekend in the UK and elsewhere! I know they are in the sunshine, booze is cheap and plentiful (as are other substances same as Ibiza!) and Mum and Dad probably still at home! I even saw a Cypriot Anti-Aids demonstration walking through all this, consisting of Mothers of young Cypriot men they reckon had contracted Aids by sleeping with the tourists and had infected what was once an Aids free island! I know, I know! To be perfectly honest I couldn't wait to get back inland to some of my favourite little villages, drink Keo and eat lovely homemade food out there and just chill out without all the crap going on down at the beach! I'm getting old I know!
I am guessing there are quite a few Thai folk feel the same about Patong! I really do hope it does not deteriorate into what I saw in Cyprus. Cyprus is a lovely Island as is Phuket but I am guessing we cannot bury our heads in the sand and just hope that these people will just go away.

Your yobs are posher than our yobs then.
I think that yobs in the UK are getting younger. It is not unusual to see 10 year olds running around with teenagers in gangs up to no good.
As far as general society goes, I believe that there is less respect shown for each other and a general breakdown in acceptable behaviour compared to 20 years ago.

http://english2american.com/dictionary/y.html#yob
this dictionary is cool and it makes me laugh no end. English certainly does have alot of slang and odd phrases. An american friend always laughs at things we say that are everyday phrases but are just so bizarre to someone not from the UK. eg: "i haven't seen you for donkeys years" he said...what the fk is a donkeys year?!
lol

Another one I picked up on my last contract working with Canadians was Fortnight! They had never heard of this word meaning two weeks! Ah well, once I explained that it originated a bit in thier country they were a little bit happier!
For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge is another one altogether! 555555

Denver – so true, but I have to say I go up only a couple of times each year, can’t be **** as I live in Limassol, which is full of Squaddies- this year seems to be a bit quieter, still full of pi**ed up Brits, but this time of year it’s a Ghost town
