Non-drinker's drinks...

I will be looking to expand my range of non-alcoholic tipples this tour. My usual fare is Sprite/7-up, water and coffee. I'm thinking of trying Red Bull instead of coffee this tour as a pick-me-up and hot drinks are not the best thing unless you're in an over-refrigerated gogo. Is Red Bull widely available in the bars/gogos of BKK/PTY/HKT? Somebody mentioned recently a local equivalent, but can't remember it. I'm going to pick up a red Bull on the way home, see if I can develop a taste for it

Any other ideas - beyond the obvious tonic/orange juice etc. - to add variety to a non-drinkers menu?

Cheers ,

K.

I like iced tea in the day time, its not fizzy but is thirst quenching, you can get original or other flavours, peach is disgusting but lemon is OK.

Schweppes Lime Soda is the best on a hot day. Schweppes Dry Ginger Ale is also good, and a few bars are starting to stock it now.

M150 (loy ha sip) is the local equivalent..

Also universally known as lippo.. Vodka lippo or Jeager lippos are fine for pick me ups..

Well, Redbull was invented in Thailand (some guy (Austrian?) came over and bough the international license for the rest of the word.

Just ask for a redbull and they will bring any one of the 10+ brands they seem to have here. Its not carbonated though.

I agree with you IJ, after a hard night a Gatorade and some vitamins really help. Like to keep one near the bed at night.

The BG's and go go girls in the Philippines drink the stuff all the time and it is cheaper over there than in the US.

Heh Tyfon, did you set up this thread just to see how many BM's would admit to turning over the Denverside when in LOS? IJ, Marc26 some big names didnt expect to see answer this little question.

I often have a pick-me up of Red Bull(or M150) on the rocks after my first few drinks, and occasionally another later on, if i go to Safari! Don't drink too many though, as I've heard that one of them has the equivalent amount of caffeine as 5 cups of coffee.

Speaking of coffee, Mickey Mouse Bar in Soi Seadragon makes a very nice latte!!

In the daytime, I like to get a whole coconut with straw. Yummy, and very healthy. They sell them on the street for only 20 Baht. Sometimes, I get one with dinner in a restaurant, too. Good thirst quencher.

The bars all usually have pineapple juice, if you like that.

The pharmacy across from Sansabai on Rat-U-Thit sells boxes with little packets of Korean gingseng. Often buy them, and take one with me to lunch to make tea. Although I've never done it, you could put a couple in your pocket and slip it in your water at the bar. They dissolve easily. I'm quite partial to the taste of ginseng, especially red Korean, but I know that some people don't like it. Best thing for you, though!!!

Nope, I was just looking for some variety, items to ask for that will be more-or-less universally understood in most bars/gogos - if I ask for something too complex it takes too long to explain in a high noise environment and you usually get something unrecognisable. "Sprite" ("splite") or "Water" ("nam") are easy to bellow but not too palatable after the dozenth bar...

When I used to travel to the US (before the current regime took power) I would prepend the tern 'virgin' to a cocktail name (e.g. virgin daiquiri) to get the alcohol free version (most times) - would this be understood in LOS or would I get an alcoholic drink and the newest girl in the bar served up?

I have recently been taking a Chinese herbal ginsing extract.. Damn it gives you some nergy and zip.. Probably more of a kick than the ephidrine and really gets you bouncing..

Odd as I had not had the same amount of stimulant effect from other Ginsings I had tried.. Looks like I found my brand..

I've started on supermarket Korean ginseng and ginkgo biloba and may feel a little better than I have recently. LIL, care to share the exact brand and where to get (in Patong, presumably)?

Cheers,

K.

Where do you buy it? What's it called? And how much is it?

I've got some Ginseng tablets here! I've been taking them but nothing is happening, then again, It's like putting a full magazine on your weapon and being in a target free environment!

I am thinking of breaking them down like that Turkish licorice pepper stuff, mixing it with Vodka, ala Nicke and Geir and making a Ginseng Noir De'ath type concoction that will really turn your face inside out when it's drunk!

Just need a suitable name now!

Strangely enough the one that gives me the most zip is the cheapest pack they seem to sell.. They have some expensive ones that I had tried but only moderate sort of benefits.. These are a pack (30 ?? 50 ??) for about 240 baht IIRC labelled as Panax Ginsing Extractum with chinese writing.. 700mg ginseng per tablet take 2 tabs in the morning..

Morning regimen is Coffee, Borocca, and Ginseng..

My regime is the Bootsies Multi-Vitimins that Mummy packed for me! (Don't tell anybody will you?) a Cod Liver Oil tablet, big bucket of coffee and 23 Gitane Blondes, (One real Blonde would be nice!) and then I think about getting up!

Thanks for the name suggestions Luke, I am still getting used to your new avatar after realising the other one was actually animated. There have been so many bloody avatar changes recently, I have lost track of folk after getting used to just noting thier Avatars.

Also thinking of crushing up some of these cheap Kamagra 50Mg's we can get here into something! Looking at calling it "Pocket Rocket" or just 'Stiff one' as in "Bartender, two stiff ones please!" Just might work!
