Germany v France
Last night, I was ripped to the tits on Stella Artois (France's national dish) and cheap red wine. This morning I felt pretty rough.
Tonight, I have been mostly drinking Becks, which is made only from water, malt, hops and yeast, and is subject to Germany's purity laws (ooh er missus) from 1516.
Stella is good, but Becks is on offer at £11.99 for 24 x 275ml bottles. I've almost run out of Becks (give it a couple of hours) and can't decide which countries economy to support: any thoughts?

Try Sapporo from Japan, they're in a different World Cup group and my pension fund needs a boost

Yeah but that stuff is 3 quid a bottle and tastes like cats urine (as in a lot of cats), I need cheap and no hangover; the Germans have it for me, though the French are tempting. The world cup is, erm, distant maan...

Stella Artois is actally from Belgium..
Anyway how come this beer is so big in the UK? Marketing? Its a good beer no doubt, but in the rest of Europe it is nearly unavaliable.

England, of course! Get yourself 8 X 500 ml bottles of Morlands Old Speckled Hen, at 5.2% abv, for £10 (online at Ocado). That should do the trick!

Stella Artois is a Belgian beer. Brewerew formerly called Interbrew, now Inbev. They also own Jupiller, Leffe and Hoegaerden in Belgium, plus a lot of foreingn beers, like Becks and Labbat.

I agree with you tintin,Hoegaarden is a fine beer. Very light, almost white but clean taste and very strong.
A good drink of this will have you falling down in no time
Strangely,Stella is the most popular lager beer in the UK by sales.
It gives me a dreadful hangover though so I avoid it

Wy not put Coke in that list....
Read Michael Jackson books about REAL beers. Everybody its taste, but there is quality that is so far above the beers you mention. I am NOTa beer-drinker, or beer-expert, but as a wine-expert, I can say that I can taste.

How about Scotland , we're crap at football but make some decent beers. This one has a kick like a mule , ABV 7.3%, so you only have to drink a couple. Available at TESCO.

I do like Budweiser Budvar, good deals on that sometimes so that's a good call, and I did not realise that Stella was Belgian so am clearly still learning.
The Becks is excellent, no hangover which is a real bonus. Today I will be mostly drinking coffee but when the boy goes back to my ex's coven tonight I will be able to go the pub, and they sell Carling Black Label, which goes down well.
I don't like all the 'extra cold' stuff we get these days though, kills the taste for me. I will definitely try the Speckled Hen as well, and if Fawlty would care to share the name of his mysterious Celtic rocket fuel I might give that a whirl.
