My little TG has told me about the temple visits and also shown me pics of her and another girl wearing white robes. The subject of head shaving came up as well, but I didn't fully understand what she was saying. She has only stayed for a week recently, so thanks for the heads-up on how many days Steve, I'll bear that in mind so I'm not taken by surprise if I go back over to LOS knowing that she's been staying in the temple for a long period.

Since she told me this when I was with her and it was something that she had done in the past I have no reason to doubt her. However, that doesnt mean that some girls could use the same story if they have a "friend" over for a week.

I do think that it is more likely that this is something that they wouldn't lie about to use for an excuse, because they take Buddhism very seriously. You never hear them making jokes about Buddha or monks.
Making merit is doing good deeds, which racks up good kharma points!! I totally believe in that stuff. Just seems like good common sense to me. Sometimes if I do a little bit of a good Samaritan thing, like pick up a hitchhiker and then go out of my way to take them somewhere if they have a good story of why they need to get there, they wil say, "Thanks so much." and I will say, "Oh, it's nothing!" And they say, "Really, I appreciate it, you didn't have to go out of your way for me!" Then I will say, "Well, actually, I needed the good kharma points!!"
Your good kharma points will often help you out it in this lifetime(what goes around comes around), but also determines whether you come back as a prince or a frog, bug or worse next go-round!!!

And JB I think you will find out the answer to that question sooner rather than later if you keep picking up unknown hitchikers.

It's something that I've always done and will continue to do. People need assistance, and I need the karma. As a teen, I hitched to work and back every day. Have had much more scarier experiences when I was a hitchhiker than when I was the driver. I used to never pass anybody, always gave them a lift. But now, if a guy or gal looks a bit too seedy, I will often pass them up. Not because I am afraid of them, but because the ones who are homeless, and haven't bathed in a week or more, just stink so bad, I absolutely can't stand it. Makes it difficult to breathe.

I used to hitchike everywhere when I was a lad but you never hardly ever see anyone hitchiking now because there has been far too many instances of rape, injuries, deaths to drivers that no one picks them up anymore, you suprise me as well cos I thought US was more dangerous place than UK.

When I was about 20, more or less, it seemed like everyone hitchhiked, and plenty picked up hitchhikers, you rarely had to wait long. And it was in those days that it seemd there were more bad things that happened. A lady who was a good friend of mine was raped at gunpoint, and another lady I knew well was gangraped. And yet it didn't seemed to stop anyone from doing it in those days. Even those ladies sometimes continued to, except that then they wouldn't go alone.
Now there are not nearly as many, a small fraction of what it used to be. They used to be lined up at all the main streets around here. Not anymore. It takes a lot longer to get a ride. There've been a few times when I had car trouble or locked myself out of my car and had to go home to get a key, and once when I got in an arguement with my ex, when I had to hitchhike. Certainly renewed my sympathies for those who do.
I haven't read about any terrible incidents in some time. But I never worried about it anyhow, and don't suppose I ever will. Most people are careful about this sort of thing, though, and that is why it takes longer to get rides.
Except for high crime areas, I don't think that the US is really so much more dangerous than other countries. If you go around commting crimes, or pissing people off and getting in fights, then there is a greater chance that someone will shoot you, because we have guns. But, actually, I think that there is probably a lot less fighting here for that very reason.

i went to prep school in a real small town in maine. a rule was we were not allowed cars.
if we were going to the store, or anywhere, youd just walk out to the main road, wave someone down, say you play football for MCI, and theyd drive you where you needed to go, sometimes waiting outside to drive you back

Similar to my requirements.
If I'm with a girl for more than 2 x days, I expect her to have her punani shaved. She gets double points from me if she complies.
