do you tg's understand your job?
some, or most probably havent even bothered explaining it to them. i have only tried when they asked, but they have no clue.
also, do you think there are jobs that impress them. i dont, i think as long as they think you can provide for them they dont care. i dont think they can comprehend a meaning of a good career

i found that if i try to tell anyone my job- (let alone a b/g !) they don,t have a clue !-- if you tryed to explain the "markets" to me mark 26--( paul )well you might as well be speaking in tounges--and vice versa

If I knew what it was I am supposed to be doing I might be able to explain it better to them but it's a bit of a mystery............
 There you go....International Man of Mystery working for Universal Imports at the Transworld Organisation, yep, that should do it!  Agree with Marc that IMHO as long as the Baht continues to come out of your wallet, they really couldn't care less if you were a Brain Surgeon or was a Refuse Collection Operative back at home.

All she tells me is she thinks: i) I work too hard, ii) I am busy earning money to come back to Thailand, and, iii) I spend too much time looking at Chinese ladies.
Well one out of three ain't bad!

well, i was talking to tg on the phone once. she asked me how work? i say today not good.(i lost a shitload of money) she asked why, treid to explain it, no chance in hell.
so i gave her this example: i said if your bf bought you shoes for 400baht and no other bg had them and couldnt find them in the store, some might want to pay her money to sell the shoes, some might want to pay 600, another wants them bad, so shell pay 800baht. she then understood, and i told her thats what i do with company's. but she couldnt grasp the fact i can lose money when i go work. she asks" why your boss no pay you money, you work long time today?"

Understanding my job?
Well, my old Japanese girlfriend understood OK. I even took her to my office one day. I think one Thai girl understood once when I explained it to her, but she'd been to college in Canada. Normally, I don't even try to explain. It doesn't matter.

I had to take the more complex parts that was the real reason my main biz's made money (tax issues) out but once it was down to I have men who go work building then she gets it..
Wifey1 was with me during some more of my dodgy earning periods and lived running around all over Europe.. She was one of the most perceptive readers of people I have ever met and I valued her judgement.. She was someone who would meet a person and either like or dislike them and advise to trust or not trust on instinct.. As I would often enter into deals that involved trust on big amounts of money over a handshake this was really valuable.. Another funny thing I heard once.. In Europe if you are a landowner you are a wealthy person.. Yet if a BG asks what you do and a man replies he owns a farm.. 'Ohh you farmer' and its total no interest.. Its like 'girl he doesnt have a few rai of rice paddy back home.. Hes lord of the manor !!!' funny but understandable..

Sort of......but it took me quite a while for her to get it (Finance Broker).....she has even had the pleasure of attending my office....then asked me for a job !

Try telling a bargirl that you fly an aeroplane that lands on the water! That bamboozles them…
Now if they ask what I do I give a vague answer like, “I work at the airport,” they seem satisfied with that. Any further details further seems to be of little interest to them and they generally ask nothing more. What does “impress” them is when they learn that I work locally in Thailand. I suppose that shifts me from being a short term money grab to a longer term prospect for them? I like that they are not so phased by occupation. It is refreshing not to be judged by what you do but rather for who you are. We can be a bit too obsessive in defining ourselves and others by our work in the western world.

Theres no confusion when i say i work in a gold mine. All TG's understand this..
Explaining shotfiring is a little more difficult, i just tell them i make big bomb... Took my GF into the mine while she was in Australia on holiday and she loved it. She spent the whole time with her eyes on the ground hoping to spot a nugget...

Yes and no , I work in a hospital , that's easy , they know all about that.
I work in the Operating Theatre , pretend to cut them open , they get the message. I work with the Anaesthetists , "Doctor , Sleep" , they get the message. But try explaining that I am not a Nurse or a Doctor , and they are completely lost.  Still , I think they can understand part of my job and they think I do important work . Just goes to show how wrong they can be.
