Alternative to phuket and pattaya
the weather is although we had some good days, still very unstable. The forecast is not good.
I was thinking about spending my last week, or days, somewhere else. I don't like Pattya, but the weather is much better there for the moment, then phuket. But the coast there is very long. Would there be no place on that coast, a bit nicer village, or town, with a small little hotel, not too expensive, to spend these last days? Anyone some sugestions?
Please do not put this tread in another forum, because then it will not be read!

Never been to Kho Chang..
Whats it like compared to others ?? Same chilled slow island vibe I am guessing.. Heard they were trying to make it all upmarket at one point a few years back.. Not backpacker friendly but no idea if it happened..
Personally I really like Koh Tao for a chill out place, due to lots of divers nice community there also for people to chat to over quiet sundowners.. Not been there in over a year... Lantas pretty cool also but didnt enjoy myself as much, thats totally variable tho as it all depends on who you meet, what you do, how the days go.. 2 or 3 days over to Lanta and combining Krabi is a nice break from routine and cheap and easy for Phuketians..

I have not had the pleasure yet either but heard many good reports about the place, has very steep hills, even more than phuket.
I looked into it before as I was tempted to try it last may, the sand is very white, almost like chalk.
Saw some beach bungalows for 800 baht a night (Cookie bungalows) and they looked good value for money.
But the scene is quiet there like samet, so only good for those not wanting exciting nightlife. A place to take a girl with you same as Phi Phi.
Think I will get there one day.

Why not try Hua Hin i am going there for a short 1 week visit for my birthday in january, lots of nice hotels i recomend either the jed pee nong 1250 bhat per night for room next to swim pool, or thiparai villa 2 minutes from bar area but nice and quiet . Hua hin is very quiet daytime but nightime has plenty of beer bars ang bgs and a couple of good nightclubs. plenty of good restaurants and only a 2 and a half hour trip to bangkok to catch your flight home, i have been there 11 times it is just the place to go at the end of your holiday if you have been to phuket or pattaya. both hotels i have mentioned are online you can get them by doing a search on google by the way very nice beaches in hua hin and cha aam which is only 15 minutes away.

Maybe give Koh Chang ago, I went a few years ago, its a national park and the scenry is beautiful, so if your into bush walks and bike rides in the jungle it may suit you.
The beaches are nice, most accommation is just bungalows I payed 300 baht but that was off peak.
Its a very quiet place, far to quiet for me, I was there 3 days and that was plenty, but each to there own. Good place to BYO girlie.
There was no nightlife, but agian... I went off peak.
cheers Barflyerx

The weather is only unstable, lower then Pattaya. I will see the weather-forecast, today the weather is fair. I was in fact looking for a place on the coast where Pattaya lays, wich is nicer.
Thanks for your feedback!

I just planned to go to Koh Chang for a week in January. I also heard a lot of good stories about this place so I want to check it out. I have heard that it is rather quiet but as far as I can understand "White Sands Beach" has a bar area although it isn't very big and the "quality" of girls should be medium.
However, since I am bringing my own girl it wont be an issue for me. The biggest problem is to figure out which beach to stay at. I'm currently looking at White Sands Beach or Klong Prao beach but I havent decided yet.
I will post a trip report and pictures when I get back.

I'm sure you will have a good time not matter which beach you stay at as they all look fairly decent.
Would like to see a report on it from you and let us know how it was

Rochdale, Greater Manchester (AKA Lancashire) - Fine Canal with a variety of fish floating on the top! Fine ales and pubs close to all the hospitals.
Al Mansour District, Baghdad (AKA Red Zone!) - Fine modern architectural ruins to look around from your armoured vehicle.
Freetown, Sierra Leone, West Africa - Fine selection of Malaria, leprosy and rice dishes. Good beach complete with drug debris. Cheap shirts!
HCM City, Vietnam (AKA Hanoi) - Similar nightlife to Phuket but also full of Australians! Tch!! Fine river with a variety of boats floating on the top! Lousy traffic and humid!
Blackpool, Lancashire, England - Sticky rock, fat lasses in crop tops! mmmmm Bitterly cold winds, replica Eiffel tower, kiss me quick hats and fist fights, Police quite friendly, very quick court appearances! I'll be there in about three weeks! I might start another countdown thread!
21 days til Blackpool!
