Pattaya

Hi,

Well this is my third day in Pattaya and you can keep it. It's Phuket gone wrong.

Spent 7 days in bangkok and leave pattaya on the 28th to come to Phuket for 10 nights and can't wait to get out of Pattaya.

Both me and Par agree that we will never come back to Pattaya.

I haven't been so cannot comment on anything other than what people who have been tell me and in general i get the impression that Pattaya is not for everyone.

Seems it is great for a shagathon thru the gogo bars and the seedier side of life. Sounds fun in small doses.

Sorry Africanw,

But I cannot understand with all the imformation on this forum why you would go to Pattaya in the first place, And especially bringing another girl there with you which is a definate no-no, Pattaya is a full-on red light district that is for single guys who are looking for girls, And not much else really

Anyway seeing as you dislike the place so much, Maybe you would be better off jumping ship now to a place like Samui for a few days which would surely be more enjoyable for you and your tilak, Might cost a few more baht to sort out but it would be worth, Rather than waste another days in a place you both dislike so much...

Anyway whatever you decide, See you in Patong in a few days where the really begins

Ally, I can assure you you can find everything in Pattaya. Even good ladies. I went to Patt in 92 and said stop, this is not for me. I went back this year, in fact 3 rtimes, and I like it. But after 5 days I need a more relaxed place like Phuket, probably my age. My days of working days, patying nights in South-America and Africa are over;
I assumed that, since the tourists in Phuket are, let's say have a bigger wallet and commonly speaking above the standard of Pattaya, no offence intended, the girls in Phuket would be above the Pattaya standards.
No, they explained me that as they come from Isaan, and still have their family (mother taking care of their child in general) there, it is a lot cheaper to take the bus from Pattaya than the plane Phuket-BKK-Isaan.
And I have seen some fine ladies in Pattaya.

Pattaya has a h e l l of alot to offer, the best nightlife, the best music, adequate beaches, shopping, sports, lots of restaurants and a massive selation of hotels.
IMO allybabba's statement is rubbish.
Samui is full of bloody backpackers and Ibiza drop outs and Patong is a smaller Pattaya wannabee.

Ah, Davethailand, but then you have one of the best places for music in Pattaya.
I don't agree on the beaches, which I don't like, but I know some fine restaurants in Pattaya, golf is cheaper than Phuket (but the courses are not so well maintained), shopping is excellent, and there is more than enough nightlife. Maybe one day I have to present myself to you when you are in your business.

Maybe adequate was'nt the right word although there are a couple of smaller beaches which are very very nice.
Please do pop in the club, i'm there most evenings.

pattaya is where the action is..plenty more too do..its got it all....been there lots of times even with my girl...
phuket is ok ..BUT...backpackers and the feel good flock all looking for the cheapest vacation possible ... just too low key for me..nothing too do in the afternoon( i do like the kangaroo bar) unless you want to go sightseeing (boring),how many times can you look at the same scienic view??...you can't sit on patong beach without getting haggled buy cheating touts every five minutes..i can go too jomtien beach and sit all day nibbling on crab legs without geting all the buy this mr/sir bullcrap that you get in patong...

pattaya is the place to go for sure!!!!!!!!

but don't get me wrong i love phuket too.......... cheers:

I'm in Allys corner on this one. He has been there, I haven't. But I've read more than enough about it on plenty of forums to know it will NEVER be a place I would wish to take my wife and daughter
Sure, its a full on mongering city with more than enough nightlife, but it needs more than that to attract me,even if I made a solo trip.
Where are the beautiful beaches, the superb day trips to wonderful islands?
Someone said day trips are boring?? If thats the case, why not just buy 2weeks sunbed tickets and spend the rest in a pub & ******s. Surely having a look around the country you have travelled half way round the world to visit,is a must. I don't understand anyone who doesnt.

Every destination has a reason for travellers to make it their favourite, and I'm not knocking Pattaya at all. I just have no reason to visit.
Phuket for me every time

Phuket is more upscale?

Having spent some time in both Phuket and Pattaya, my opinion of the matter is that Phuket is more laid back and upscale. That's not to say that Pattaya is bad. It's just different. One thing's for sure, you can spend a lot more money in Phuket if you're not careful.

Is every opinion that does not agree with yours rubbish Dave?

You say Pattaya has a lot to offer?

The best nightlife : I agree its up there with the best..

The best music : All depends what kinda music you like, Can you tell me one type of music that gets played in Pattaya, That does not get played anywhere else in Thailand? IMO the music is pretty much the same everywhere, Different clubs to cater different tastes...

The Beaches : Adequate Beaches for who? They are among the worst I have seen in Thailand, And have not got a patch on places like Phuket and Samui, So I totally disagree with you there...

Everything else you mentioned like Hotels, Shopping, Restaurants etc..etc.. Are also in every other resort that I have been too and are pretty much the same all over, I never disputed that...

What I am disputing is that Pattaya is not the sort of place to bring your family, Not the sort of place to bring your girlfriend, Its firmly based and is sold towards the single guy who likes to party and is looking for girls to have a good time, Everything else like Bungee Jumping, Go-karting, Paintball Shooting, Shooting Range etc..etc.. Can be found everywhere, But Pattaya to me and a lot of others who I have spoken to that have traveled there is not have the laid back tropical kinda atmosphere of Phuket or Samui, Its a lot more in your face, Always alive and kicking 24hrs a day kinda place...

Which I like and will be coming back too in a couple of weeks, All I can say to you Dave is that I have absolutly no vested interest in Pattaya, I dont own a bar there like you, I am giving my opinion as a tourist who travels there, If you dont agree with it fine, Thats cool, But dont call it rubbish as thats just being ignorant.

Rubbish meaning untrue. I'm not ignorant i'm speaking from experience as i've lived in pattaya for 4 years with my wife and kids, there are more and more families coming here all of the time with lots facilities for families also.
As well as having the best golf pattaya also has nearby islands, parks, and lots of other tourist attractions.
Does every resort in thailand have blues, jazz, rock clubs? no not all.And if they do they are'nt on the same level. (depending on types of music)
There is more variety in pattaya than most other places
I can show you some nice beaches if you like.

Again Dave,

Just because you believe from your experience that what I am saying is not how you see it does not make it rubbish, It is true because its the way I have seen it from my experience and believe me I am not alone on my opinion of Pattaya...

I will have to take your word for it on the Golf, All the other things like tourist attractions, Nearby islands, Parks etc.. They all have, Who have the better ones, Thats a matter of opinion, To which I dont have as I have only been to a few and its not really my thing...

Onto the Music, Samui and Phuket have Jazz, Blues and Rock music there aswell, Obviously not on the scale of Pattaya but thats because most resorts are smaller, Bigger places have things in bigger volume...

But tell you what I didnt really find in Pattaya was Trance, Tecno, Rave, Reggae but others have got them?

Or is that not music because you personally dont like it

Ally, Dave,
What Dave says is the truth as he sees it and he says you are talking rubbish...and vice versa if I understand well
So let's agree to disagree.

It is a fact that Pattaya now is better than 10-15 years ago (speaking of rubbish, I didn't find any in Walking Street, while in Soi Bangla, it stinks from the garbage).
Pattaya is cheaper than Patong.
Shopping is better in Pattaya.
Hotels and guesthouses of the same standard are cheaper in Pattaya.
Beaches are better in Phuket, but to be honest, if it was for the beach alone I wouldn't come to either. I've seen a lot better in f.i. the Philippines.
Daytrips you can do everywhere, and bungy, go carts and so also.
Now I prefer Phuket over Pattaya, simply because Patt is too hectic for me, if there is a bar open I want to stay there till closing time... and I don't recuperate like I was 21 any more. Now if I was 21, maybe I would have stayed in Pattaya and never arrived in Phuket.

Maybe something is also wrong in Patong. I spoke of the garbage. Check the street and pavement in Karon and they are 100% better than in Patong. But the mayor of Patong, and the ex-mayor both had a construction company. Maybe this stinks even more than the garbage.

Out of the music you mention i'd say that reggae is the main one that you won't find (not in a themed bar anyway) Boom, Tony's, Lucifer, Hollywood, Xcyte, marine 1 and 2 and various other bars play trance, rave etc. (as well as other stuff) The reasoned i've themed my bar so much is because all the bars play the same stuff, mine does'nt.
I personaly prefer house/ garage as I'm getting too old for
