Phuket

We are going to Phuket the middle of Nov. The 2 hotels we have been offered are Patong Merlin and Patong Beach Hotel. Any advice on either much appreciated.

Hi Chris,
I've been this year (January) in Patong Beach Hotel.
It's a very nice hotel (it's expensive too).
It's more central than Patong Merlin (where I've been told the rooms are oldest than Patong Beach Hotel).
It's a high building, top floors have a very nice sea view (but also a little of wind noise during the night).
IMHO Patong Beach Hotel is better than Patong Merlin.

Hey there. I have been to Phuket twice. Last year, i stayed in the Patong Beach Hotel. It was nice, but nothing special.
This year, we stayed in the Patong Merlin, and it was fabulous. The staff are much more friendly, the grouds are far better with 3 swimming pools! and its all round a better hotel.
I was very impressed with the Patong Merlin.
I am only 18 and you may think i want different things out of a hotel but i do believe that it would be quiet or loud enough for you. There was a swimming pool that older people used, and more younger people used the other two. When i say young i mean 20/30's, few children about. But there is a creche for children, a massgae parlour, a gym etc. The nighttime entertainment is 10 times better in the Merlin.
Trust me, if you can, pick the Patong Merlin. It may not be as central, but it is only an extra 5 minutes walk to Bangla Road and is still on the beach road.

unless they have changed their policy,patong beach hotel is not guest friendly.

500 baht joiner fee each night.

I was in Ponting this september. I stayed at the Patong Merlin. Nice hotel, nice 3 swimming pools in a tropical garden, nice and very very friendly service especially at the bar of the swimming pool. If you book there, be sure to ask for a pool view room.

Lowlights :

Pretty far from Bangla especially when you come back.
They charge you 800 B if you bring you a girls in you room.

Otherwise, It's a very nice hotel and I'm sure, I'll return next time in October.

For me, I like the Thara Patong! Beach Road and Soi Sea Pear. Its in the middle of the action and I can just go across the street to Soi Sea Pearl or out the beach road side to the beer bars to Aquire and afternoon Boom! 10 min walk to Soi Bangle

Very guest friendly.....The lady can leave her I.D. card or if you go G.F. (as I often do) you can register them and they get a room key and guest benefits....Up To You.....No Extra Charge for either way. No problem either way.... You can check out that hotel

I chose a pool terrace room in the new wing! The new wing room are big for thai hotels, very comfortable and pvt acceses to the pool. Good for late night sanuk swim.....

I've stayed there about 8 times and will be there again....

About joiner fee , Patong Beach is not 500 bath, but 1500 bath
